    3. Hi Fredreica, Welcome to Bladen. I think I'd prefer to wade through snakes than go looking for MacLeods and Bethunes. They were truly a confusing bunch. Maybe the addition of the Martin name will calm me down. We'll pass right on by the Early Pee Dee Settlers (it's SC and they're not there). Yadkin County was formed from Surry County in 1850 and Surry County was formed from Rowan County in 1770, so we need to look at Surry County for the Martins. Unfortunately I have very little on that area (on the Virginia line). From # # 27 (Cumberland census of 1790) BETHUNE, COLLIN BETHUNE, FARQUHARD BETHUNE, MURDOCK McLeod - tons of them, including a Murdock. Martin - 3 (not on your list) From # 147 MARTIN, John [to] JOHNSON, Betsey, 03/15/10 6 BETHUNE women are listed, one even married a McLeod. 36 McLeod women are listed, one married a Martin, John L, but it was in 1839 From # 11 These are the only Wills I could find pertaining to your family. Martin, Angus, 067 [Montgomery County], 1863 WB-1/102, AR Martin, Angus, 067 [Montgomery County], 1877, WB-2/88, AR Martin, Angus, 067 [Montgomery County], 1862, WB-1/94 Dee For details on sources used, refer to this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul & Fredreica Speyer <speyer@bellsouth.net> To: <NCBLADEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 31, 2001 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [NCBLADEN-L] Re: Early Pee Dee Settlers Dear Dee - I have recently joined this list and may have missed the dates that constitute "Early" for Pee Dee settlers. I am looking for my ancestor, John Bethune Martin. His father was Murdock/Murdoch Martin and his mother was Flora Bethune - they came to NC from Skye, Scotland sometime after the battle of Culloden Moor. John Bethune Martin's grandparents were Capt. John Martin, a loyalist, and Marion "Sarah" MacLeod who also came over to NC from Skye. Several of Murdock's brothers also settled in NC. Murdock had two other sons named Angus and Farquar. I'm really just looking for information on John Bethune Martin to help me figure out who he married. He was born in 1791 and married before 1820. According to census records, he lived around the Pee Dee and Yadkin. Thanks for any help on John Bethune, J.B. or Jno. B. Martin.
