On our last trip to the area, we located the grave of our great grandfather Gillespie English. He is buried in a wooded area just south of Clarkton, NC. There was a marker there for a John Meares - the cemetery is called the Dan Meares Cemetery. I will try to send you a photo - if it is your John Meares, I will give you detailed directions.
