Family of John Brown b. Abt 1815 and wife Isabella (Henry?) b. Abt 1812 Isabella Henry is dau. of William "Tailor Billy" Henry b. 4/5/1760 & Jennet (Jane) Wiley b. 3/5/1767 In the Bladen Co. NC 1850 Census John Brown and Isabella are listed with 4 children; 1. Mary C b. Abt 1840 2. James b. Abt 1842 3. Edward b. Abt 1843 4. Margaret A. Brown b. Abt 1848 (Margaret Ann Brown b. 1847 d. 1908 according to the grave marker) Margaret Ann Brown m. my great grandfather, John Butler Porter b. 1838 d. 1908 In the Bladen Co. 1860 census the above Margaret Ann Brown is shown living in the household of Joseph Elwell b. Abt 1822 and M. C. (Mary Caroline Henry) b. Abt 1832. Mary Caroline Henry is the dau. of Flora Henry b. bet 1785-1800 and John Henry b. 3/7/1787 (son of William "Tailor Billy" Henry & wife Jenett {Jane} Wiley). John Henry and Isabella Henry were brother and sister so their daughters (John's dau. Mary Caroline) and Isabella's dau. Margaret Ann Brown would have been first cousins if in fact Isabella's maiden name was Henry. Margaret Ann Brown was apparently orphaned between 1850 and 1860. I couldn't identify either John Brown, Isabella or any of their other three children in the 1860 census. I suspect that John Brown and wife Isabella (Henry?) and three of their children may have died from some contagious disease like typhoid fever but do not know this to be fact. Does anyone have information on what happend in this John Brown and Isabella (Henry?) family? Can anyone provide me with the maiden name of this Isabella? Wayne Atkinson
Your Brown/Henry family interests me greatly. At this point I don't have any new info for you and instead would like to ask for your help. My husband's grandfather was William Ethridge Brown b 1859/1842 in Tennessee, but William's parents were born in North Carolina. Through DNA testing my husband has matched 2 other Brown men that go back to Tenn and one can go farther back to Bladen Co, NC about 1843. But we have not been able to make the actual connection between any of the 3 men. What interests me about your Browns is the names. William Ethridge Brown had a daughter who is supposedly named after his sister Flora Bell Brown. Could the names be a combination of Flora and Isabelle? Also William named his first son Henry. This is probably just wild speculation, but if you have any William's in your line about that time I sure would like to know, especially if there are any Ethridges.
