    3. Hi Robert, This was a superb lookup request! I searched the Bible records of Bladen, the newspaper records in Fayetteville and Raleigh, and the Bladen Heritage book. Nothing. Then I checked five of the paid subscription websites and each time I typed up the submitter's name and contact information for you I ran into your name also. I'm so sorry that I couldn't help you. Dee All lookup requests will be permanently archived on the Bladen County Genweb site. He was born 1772 and was a son of the Scottish headright, William Cromartie (1731). I am descended from the eldest son of Alexander and Elizabeth D. Cromartie. William Cromartie was born on Nov 14, 1802 in Bladen Co. at South River Plantation. According to a death certificate I have for his son Alexander B. Cromartie, born March 5, 1831 in Alabama, William Cromartie (1802) m. Mary Elizabeth Sutton. They married on Jan. 14, 1830. This date was recorded in a vertical file by Mrs. Emmie Cromartie Covington in the 1940s and is housed at the public library in Elizabethtown. She didn't document her sources. It was strictly oral history for the most part. The Bladen Co Courthouse burned in 1869, so the marraige bond does not exist. I have applied for membership in the Mayflower Society, as William (1831) m. Ruhamah Doane and she was a lineal descendant of Stephen Hopkins, a passenger. My application was submitted back during this past Sept. after gathering birth, marraige and death records for each generation. This ONE record is all I need to be approved. So, any Bible record that included the marraige for William Cromartie and Mary Elizabeth Sutton would be sufficient. I apologize for the length of this message, but this is a last attempt before initiating a DNA project. I already possess the booklet for William Cromartie (1831) available at the Elizabethtown Public Library. Please search Bible records for Alexander Cromartie (1772). Perhaps it will mention the marraige of Wm and Mary Sutton on Jan. 14, 1830. They moved to Alabama very shortly thereafter. Several Devanes came with them as did one of the sisters, Elizabeth Cromartie (1800 eldest daughter of Alex) Sellers. Thanks for doing a search.
