I'm looking for anyone who might be a descendant or researcher of John C. Porter b. Abt 1817 and d. 10/22/1845 in Bladen County, NC. I believe John C. Porter was born in Sampson Co, NC and moved to Bladen Co with his father, Henry Porter and brother, James N. Porter between 1840 and 1850. The three of them are named in the Feb 1840 Court minutes of Sampson Co, related to a sheriff's sale in Sampson Co, NC. James N. Porter and John C. Porter have another brother, William Henry Porter b. Abt 1825 and d. Aft 1880. William Henry Porter m. Mary S. McLelland. There are also two sisters but I don't have names for the sisters. John C. Porter m. Margaret Ann Melvin b. 1820 and they had one child, Sarah Margaret Porter b. 10/20/1845 who m. James Lucien Gilliland b.7/13/1840. John C. Porter apparently was in poor health when he wrote his will on 10/1/1845. He states "I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Margaret Ann Porter, the plantation I bought of James Chason, my black girls, Amy (Anny?) and Patty, during her natural life and then to the child she is now carrying."
