The family immigrated to NC in 1770 per some family records in the Bahamas. Daniel had brothers named John, Archibald, Duncan, Gilbert, Jephtha, and POSSIBLY Alexander, as well as some sisters. John and Daniel stayed in BLaden Co after the Revolutionary war, the other brothers being banished to the Bahamas for Loyalist service in the war; the most famous being Maj. (later Lt Col) Archibald Taylor. Both John and Daniel are listed in the records of the Brown Marsh Presbyterian Church, and John and Daniel are both buried in the churchyard there. They are also both listed on the will of Archibald Kelly.
