Hi Jim, >From # 150 paraphrased: Both Amos Runnels and Dred. Runnels are listed in the Sampson County Tax List of 1784. Amos Runnals, Dredrill Runnals, Frances Runnals, Mathew Runnals and Mathew Runnals are listed in the Sampson County Census of 1790. >From # 6 paraphrased: The Will of SHADRACH RUNNELS, 26 Aug 1782 mentions wife Mary; sons Robert and Willis. SAMPSON COUNTY 1794, Mathew Runnels, 150 acres, Two mile Br. This certainly didn't connect him to any particular family but it might rule him out of some families. There is nothing in the Sampson Cemetery Books and I think I've looked in the rest of the books for you. The farthest back I've heard (connected) from my primary line is Dreadzel Runnels on the tax rolls there. I do know he died in Marion Co SC, not Sampson Co NC; but I have absolutely no information about his parents nor siblings. The last name of course has been found in several variations (Runnals, Reynolds, Renals, etc.); and his given name has been misspelled in so many places, that if I didn't have his will I would wonder about the actual spelling of his entire name. I have seen several other Runnels people in that county on the tax rolls but can't find anything to connect them as a family. Any help would be appreciated with anyone resembling that name or probable connections as relatives. Thanks. Jim in Vero Beach FL (and trying to stay warm!)
