Hi James, "Pleasant Retreat was destroyed by fire in 1892" - this is according to Laura Day Beatty Rosser (Mrs. Clyde B. Rosser), 815 Lynn Drive, Sanford, NC 27330 in her entry 244 WILLIAM HENRY BEATTY. I don't have any photographs or pictures of the house but if Mrs. Rosser doesn't perhaps the Bladen County Historical Society will. I recently received the full copy of William Henry Beatty's will and in it he states that he built a home 40 miles from Wilmington on the road to Fayetteville along the Black River just below a toll bridge which is named Beatty's Bridge and called the homestead Pleasant Retreat Plantation. I have learned that the house burned down in either the late 1890 or early 1900. If you can, could you help me in maybe locating pictures of this house. Thanks a bunch James.
