You show him as having 8 children, all with no names. Have you been able to get those names?? I'm looking to place a David b:1775, who married Delphia Minchew in 1817. The information I had on David showed him as being born in Ware Co., GA...I' not so sure that that is correct. At the DNA site, they are showing a David line was tested and he's born in NC. That changes alot of things. Now, it's like I have to start over. I'm not sure where we came from, have you heard the name David. Other names repeated are Abraham, Randal, and Odus. Do any of these ring a bell?? Thank you for the website, Tamela Jordan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NCBLADEN] What to do when the Courthouse has burned and you're all out of marshmallows........
    2. Butch Butler
    3. WHAT TO DO WHEN THE COURTHOUSE HAS BURNED AND YOU ARE ALL OUT OF MARSHMALLOWS! 1. The courthouse may not have burned totally. Some records may have been saved because they were in an annex or wing that didn't burn. Don't always rely on what the court clerk says. 2. There may be/have been 2 courthouses in the same county. 3. The records may have been reconstructed or re-recorded, and remember that deeds sometimes are not recorded for years after the transfer. (Also check with county abstract offices). 4. Check neighboring counties for deeds, probate records and marriages. It may be necessary to go out a second or third county away for a marriage record. People who elope do not go to their own town courthouse for the license. 5. Check everything in the courthouse where the family went to and the county where they came from if the county is known. Many sold land to relatives before moving on. 6. Check the parent county/countie s Land records and the State Land Records for those counties. In the case of territory claimed by two states, check both state records. If your problem is in the Fire Lands or a Military District, check the parent States records. 7. Check the progeny (those that were formed from your county) county/counties for Land records that may have been recorded at a much later date. FEDERAL RECORDS: 1. Census Records 2. Mortality schedules. 3. Military records and Pensions. 4. Federal Land Grants, Homestead States. 5. Immigration and Naturalization. 6. DECENNIAL Digest. This index covers the years 1658 to 1906 and is found in most law libraries. It indexes cases that went to appellate or higher courts. 7. Federal court records. (Remember that Federal records are records of the Revolution and records created since that time.) STATE RECORDS: 1. Census - State and Territorial. 2. Militia and Pension. 3. Birth and Death records. 4. Tax Records: Real, Personal and Poll. 5. Land Lotteries, Land Grants, Homesteads. TOWNSHIP OR TOWN RECORDS: Items vary according to the state. In Ohio I saw a list of men available and of the right age for Military duty from the late 1800's. Other states may have townships that function like a county or a city and have the equivalent records. CITY RECORDS: 1. Birth and Death records. 2. Marriage records. 3. Cemetery records. 4. Tax records. 5. City directories (more currently, phone books). HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS: 1. State Archives and Libraries. 2. County Historical Societies. 3. College Libraries. 4. Local Libraries. 5. Private Libraries (D.A.R., S.A.R., Railroad, etc.) In all of these libraries, be sure to check the vertical files.) PUBLISHED RECORDS: 1. County Histories. 2. Town and City Histories. 3. Genealogies. 4. Genealogical and Historical Society Quarterlies. 5. Newspapers. PRIVATE RECORDS: 1. Church records, Church Historical Libraries. 2. Funeral home records. 3. Cemetery records, Sextons Records, and transcripts of cemeteries made years ago. 4. School records, College or Grade. 5. Title and Abstract companies. 6. Private Land Co. such as the Holland Land Purchase in NY. HOME SOURCES: 1. Bible records. 2. Photo albums. 3. Baby books. 4. Insurance policies. 5. Family letters, diaries, ledgers. MISCELLANEOUS: 1. Lineage Societies. 2. Masonic Records. 3. Fraternal Records. BOTTOM LINE: Analyze your probelm and decide: 1. What information you really NEED! 2. What types of documents may provide that information! 3. Then analyze the locality or localities where that proof may be found. **From a program for the Oklahoma Genealogical Society, February 4, 1985, given by Mrs. Lois M. COPLE.

    2. As requested by Thelma Blackburn, I am resending the attached article about the 80 billion records going on line. If you do not get it, please e-mail me and I will send it directly to you. I would also suggest checking www.familysearch.org on a regular basis. It is changing on a daily basis of what is available. My husband especially has helped a lot of people using this site. Also - there is a site that I can send if anyone is interested to help with indexing the Granite Mountain Vaults to get more records released. I have already sent the information to Allen and Betty Johannes to hopefully enlist volunteers in their part of Texas. We have quite a few here in the Fort Worth area but could always use more around the country. One of the reasons I am so anxious about getting these records out is that I hope someday to find out more about by gg-grandfather Larry Dew (c. 1820 - 13 September 1861) and my gg-grandmother Martha (Patsy) Pait Dew (c.1833-?). My dearly loved cousins in Bladen, Sampson, Robeson and Cumberland counties have been on the search with me for more years than we can count. We have turned over every stone and tromped through more cemeteries, looked in more records than you can imagine. We are hoping that as these records come out that we can go back further than the 1860 census to find more about them and trace our lines. I hope others will be helped by the release of these records. Take care and bless, Ada Silver-Hauser Bedford, Texas Families: Dew, Davis, Pait, Brisson, Russ, Nance, Pittman, Freeman, Hester

    3. Hi Paulette, I know that you were waiting to hear from me and I must explain that if I get 100 lookup requests that ask a specific question and/or mention a specific book I will always do those before I do one that requires me to first "find" a person and then find the information. Those require a lot of reading, making notes, etc. I wish I had good news for you. >From # 624 Paraphrased: There was a Samuel Sumner in Buncombe County in 1820. also in Buncombe were a William and a Richard Sumner. There were no other Samuel Sumners shown. >From # 783 There was a Richard Sumner with a son Samuel but Samuel died and left will in Buncombe County abt. 1824. The information does not name Samuel's wife but mentions that Samuel was born abt 1794 had "at least 7 children": Jesse, Cynthia, Nancy, Margaret, Joel, Richard, Naomi. Could this be your Samuel? I found the Rootsweb/Ancestry records on your Samuel so this is obviously not the one you are searching for. There are no Sumners listed in Passports. 1. [NCBLADEN] Revolutionary War Records Are First Fruits of New Record Services Program
    2. Jim & Ada Hauser
    3. Revolutionary War Records Are First Fruits of New Record Services Program FamilySearch Teams with Service Providers to Expedite Historic Records Access SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH-FamilySearch and Footnote announced today the first project of the new Records Access program-to digitize and index the historic U.S. Revolutionary War Pension records. The Record Access program helps archives and other records custodians publish their collections online. A significant collection of genealogical and historical significance will be accessible online by leveraging the resources of FamilySearch, the world's largest repository of genealogical information, with those of Footnote. Footnote is one of the new breed of genealogy web sites working with FamilySearch to digitally preserve, index, and publish the world's records in concert with archives around the world. As part of the agreement, FamilySearch will digitize the images currently held in the National Archives Record and Administration's collection (NARA) in Washington, D.C., and Footnote will create the electronic indexes. When complete, the indexes and images will be viewable at Family History Centers and at Footnote.com. Indexes will also be available at FamilySearch.org. Numerous other national and international projects are under development at this time and will be announced as agreements are signed or data is published. To see examples of the Revolutionary War Pension Files, go to www.footnote.com/revolutionary-war.php. Records custodians worldwide are experiencing growing pressure to provide access to their records online while maintaining control and ownership. At the same time, websites that provide digitizing and publishing services are struggling with the staggering costs," said Wayne Metcalfe, director of Records Services for FamilySearch. "The new Record Access program takes advantage of FamilySearch's resources and creates an economical and effective forum where records custodians and genealogy websites can work together to accomplish their respective objectives," added Metcalfe. FamilySearch's new Records Access program provides tools and assistance to records custodians who want to publish their collection using state-of-the-art digital cameras, software, and web-based applications. FamilySearch Records Services has representatives worldwide who can work with archivists to determine how FamilySearch and affiliates can help them achieve their digital preservation and publication needs. Family History Center Support support@familysearch.org The following collection is available from the HeritageQuest Online Collection, referenced in the previous email. Note: There are two ways patrons may gain free access to the collection: 1. Family History Library and selected Family History Centers, and 2. 1. [NCBLADEN] HeritageQuest Online
    2. Jim & Ada Hauser
    3. We are pleased to announce that access to HeritageQuest Online will soon be free through selected family history centers. The HeritageQuest collection is one of the largest online collections of genealogical information available. At present, only centers in the United States who 1) have installed LANDesk, 2) have more than two PCs, and 3) are open at least 10 hours per week will qualify to have access to this service. Selected centers in other countries will also receive access. Access to HeritageQuest Online will be available for on site usage only. You will be notified separately within two weeks if your center qualifies. Please note that patrons may also access the HeritageQuest Online collection for free through over 4400 U.S. public libraries (both in the library and from home using their valid library card). Our desire is to provide many excellent resources for patrons to more easily and successfully pursue their family history. We will therefore continue to add more record collections through FamilySearch Indexing and other agreements with record providers. 3. Helen, I cannot find anything in the Cherokee books. I have also searched South Carolina - especially Edgefield, and Georgetown around 1800 (Squires in the 1800 SC Census were in those counties) - wills, deeds, Passports, ancestors, census and newspapers. I found your postings on some of the paid subscription sites that I checked but nothing more than you already have. In the military, Andrew Squires is the only Squires listed. In all of SCMAR (South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research) there were two entries to the effect that Mr. Squires two children are sick and Mr. Squires two children died - 1844. I'm so sorry that I couldn't help you. Dee All lookup requests will be permanently archived on the Bladen County Genweb site. (Ask for "anything" as a request.) I give you my word. I'm looking for validation and source citactions. I'm looking for one of two surnames ... SQUIRES or SQUIRREL (or SQUIRRELL) This is the same line/person. I just learned Monday night that the Squires line came from the Squirrel line. I received the information from a reliabe source, a licensed genealogist, who has researched the Squires line for over 30 years. She says that Nancy Ward and Chief John Squires are in the family tree. Timeline would be late 1700's (like 1790) to 1860's. I use those dates because I'm not sure when my ancestor, Wiley Squires was born. The guessed date is 1800 in South Carolina. No one can figure out who his father was so I'm wondering if that's when the transition of the names occurred? Areas to consider would be Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. (One son, William Russell Nelson Squires, was born in MS in 1824 and another son, William Wiley Squires, was born in 1828 in Alabama.) Wiley is thought to have died in Santa Rosa County, Florida anywhere from 1860 to 1870. His wife's name was Ruth. Last name not proven yet. I talked to someone who says he and Ruth are buried in a cemetery named Backbone in Ellijay, Georgia but haven't found anything close to that yet. I'm not asking for you to look in all those places. I'm just trying to give you enough information that you might be able to match to him at any time during his life. I appreciate your help, Dee. I'm very grateful. Blessings to you, Helen Squires Cunningham On 5/11/07, Dee Thompson <d7777@worldnet.att.net> wrote: Who you are looking for, where, when, any other family members and what exactly you want to know. She was answering my post and provided a link I could research.(I was looking for the Cherokee city in Georgia.) Can you please tell me what type of information I need to supply for you to do a look up? Thank you, Helen Squires Cunningham
