Linda: I sent you an email with some images. Did you get them? I had also checked the books that the Cumberland Co Society has had printed. The only two that I couldn't check were Bill Fields' Minutes of the Court of P & Q Sessions. The deed books that we printed were too early for the time period involved in your Herring. If you didn't get what I sent, I'll do it again. I'm not at home for a week as I'm in Missouri right now and not sure how often I'll have internet access. Do you have a James Buckhannan in your family lines ? He was a witness along with Jacob Willis to the sale of land on both sides of little broad river between George & Elizabeth Wiginton of Tryon County 1772 and Alexander Koyl. Would you have any information that might help us in locating George after this sale? Thank you in advance, JanGulick ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

MISS DEE, I recently visted the Cumberland Co. CH and you can not see the old original deeds. Their deeds are digitalized or on Micro Film. Dear Linda, On your next visit to Fayetteville your best bet would be to go to the Headquarters Library on Maiden Lane in downtown Fayetteville They have a Local and State History dept with much info to help you including old newspapers on fische that you can print copies from and the librarians there are very helpful http://www.cumberland.lib.nc.us/ The courthouse papers you would need are not located there anymore but are in the NC State Archives------ http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/default.htm you can also access the Cumberland Co Register of Deeds online http://www.ccrodinternet.org/ Have you checked the Cumberland Co Genweb site? http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccumber/cumberland.htm Fayetteville is my hometown and my McArthurs settled here in the mid 1700s I have been fortunate that they all seemed to like this area because few of them moved away and that has made my research so much easier,on my Mother's side anyway :) Happy Hunting!! Hi Josette, You did not mention which Maxwell you are searching for. I did not find any Maxwells in Anson Deeds but there is a 1785 Will for Robert Maxwell filed in Mecklenburg County (formed from Anson in 1762), some mentions of the Maxwells in the Mecklenburg County Heritage book which I cannot check without a name, and a few marriage records. I had learned who his children were, and who they married. I had learned that he migrated from Bladen Co.,NC. While searching Bladen county for the father of Jesse Jones, I came upon the posting which I am responding to today. I thought that the proper place to attach this report would be at the foot of the post which started the whole thing. The above posting mentions an equity suit filed by Unity Jones. I sent for a copy of the newspaper article which confirms that Unity was filing for dower rights concerning the estate of Sylvanus Jones. This would make Unity the wife of Sylvanus Jones. The children of Sylvanus were all mentioned in the suit. The sons were: ... 1. John Jones. one John Jones is on Jennings Co., IN 1830 census. One John Jones is on Ripley Co., IN 1840 census. ... 2. Jesse Jones. Jesse Jones is on 1830 and 1840 census for Ripley Co. ... 3. Jonas Jones. (Johann) Jones is on 1830 Ripley Co., IN census. He is a neighbor to Jesse. The daughters were: ...4.Anna who married Jonathan Deal ...5. Patty who married Mr Grimsley. Patty died before the time of the suit and had sons John and Jesse Grimsley. ...6. Avey who married Jordan Moore. Avey and Jordan Moore can be found in Upson Co., GA, Coffee Co., AL, etc ...7. Charity who married James Butts ...8. Nancy who married Alfred Busby. Alfred Busby is on the 1830 census for Ripley Co., IN, the 1840 census for Jennings Co., IN, and probably the Phillips Co., AR 1850 census. Additional support: 1)Jesse Jones is next door neighbor to Sylvanus Jones on the 1820 census for Bladen County. John and Jonas Jones are also on the same Bladen county census. 2) Alfred Busby witnessed the will of Ezekiel Busby in 1823 Bladen County, NC. 3) Ezekiel Busby Jr. married Judah Jones the daughter of Jesse Jones. 4) Ezekiel and Alfred Busby are on page 9 of the 1830 census for Ripley Co., IN. It is likely, then, that Alfred and Ezekiel are sons of Ezekiel Sr (b abt 1760 of Bladen Co., NC). All evidence I have been able to find points to Sylvanus Jones of Bladen County, being the same Sylvanus Jones who was a Revolu- tionary Soldier from Dobbs(later Greene County, NC) It also points to his children all being born in Dobbs county, NC or the counties which sprang from Dobbs County. It points to all of his children marrying into families of Greene County, except Nancy who married Alfred Busby of Bladen County. I would like to thank Jodi Cubbage and Lois Francesci. It was their mention of Bladen County that sent me looking in that direction. I would especially like to thank the sender of the Sylvanus Jones equity suit posting.
