    3. Dee, Would you check and see if you can find anything on this for me? Cullen Carter at one time was from Bladen Co., NC I would be so appreciative if you would try to find something. This has been my brick wall. Cader Carter of Greene co., GA is the father of Richard Wilkins Carter of AL my so many great grandfather. I think that Cullin Carter might be his father and Isaac Carter was some kin and hopefully a grandfather or uncle. The follow information was found in Greene Co., Georgia Land Records Deeds 1785-1810 Abstracted by Freda R. Turner located in DeKalb County Public Library in their Special Collections Room: Deed Book CC page 486: Cullin Carter of Greene County State of Georgia - Cato Carter of Greene County appointed as his lawful attorney, William Easen of Greene County on 31 August 1810 to act for him in the State of North Carolina to collect whatever is due him from the estate of Isaac Carter, deceased, which fell into the hands of Cullin Carter in his lifetime, Wit: William Johnson, J.P., and E. E. Park. Recorded 10 September 1810. Thank you so much for taking the time to even read this. If this is not something that you can do I will understand. 3. Hi Ted, Note: # 3 (of the "Betty" lookup below has a wrong date of newspaper publication: it should be October 20th, 1846. 1. When I do a lookup for someone I include everything that I can get my hands on. So the reference to (additional information) did not come from me - it is in Bess's book and refers to the availability of additional information on that entry at the courthouse. She means that it was too lengthy or irrelevant for her to include. The full text will be found in the North Carolina State Archives. I copied everything on Constant Johnson that was in both of her books. 2. There is no will for him in NC Testator's. 3. Not a clue. 4. He is not shown in the three Cumberland Cemetery books that I have. 5. I can find nothing on Elijah or Willie F. Moore - not even their Wills. 6. No, there's no additional mention of him, probably because of the dates. Ted, I am so sorry that you had to wait so long for so little. Constant Johnson was the father of my great great gandmother, Sarah Jane Johnson Moore Cannon. I recently visited her grave for the first time at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington. I am interested in the two books you mentioned by Bess Tyner and the additional information she may have had on Constant. I have some conflicting information about him, e.g., that he was a Silversmith in Fayetteville for several years. He later was 50% owner of the steamboat "Henrietta" that operated between Wilmington and Fayetteville and brought many of the Scottish immigrants to the Valley of the Scots. He and Mr. Hall also owned a Cotton Mill in Fayetteville. I was surprised to see "Esq" after his name. He married Maria Miller on Aug 12, 1819. On the 1850 census, she shows her birthplace as "Conn". One would think they were married in Conn or she came down to Fayetteville to marry him. He was a partner from 1815 to 1817 with Jehiel Johnson and John H. Hall in Middletown, CT as Johnson Hall & Co. My records show that he was working after 1818 as a pewtersmith in Fayetteville. He must have had some success in his ventures. If you have additional information from the Bess books, I would like to have. Thanks. Ted M. Kennedy, Jr Atlanta, Ga tmkjr@bellsouth.net

    3. Yes, thank you Jerome. I did go to Footnote and look at the items there for Dempsey. I will try to get a membership, so I can hopefully print them. This Dempsey, Jr. would be my ggg-granduncle, brother of my Alexander and son of Dempsey, Sr. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in looking for those. 2. I didn't. After I got your message I tried both but was unsuccessful in viewing the 9 and 19 pages. I don't have a subscription to footnote.com but I do have a library no. to access Heritage Quest. 2. No, Lura, I did not write to you directly. Some other person must have written you. I don't know anything about Abraham Herring and his family, but I believe Abraham Herring was a white man based on these items. He had a will and a son that was orphaned and the court assigned someone to care for his son and watch over his estate. I am not related to the Carroll family. 3. Wayne, Forgive my tardiness in thanking you for this additional information regarding Dempsey Carrol/ell/oll of Sampson County. I will continue my search for Levina JONES, who I thought might have married into the Joneses of Bladen County. I wondered.... Are you related to these Carrolls? Also... this is a long shot.... My anti-SPAM folder threw out a letter from someone with a long string of numbers in front of a name I didn't recognize. That letter was never read. I just noticed about mid-way below that your address has a long string of numbers like that. Did you by chance write to me off list, and if you did, will you please write again? It is difficult to distinguish between Sr. and Jr. unless they are both named in the same document. I believe Martha was married to Dempsey, Sr., but some others believe that Martha was the wife of Dempsey, Jr. This seems as though the young boy, Abraham Herring, inherited land from his deceased father, Abraham Herring. Is that what you understand? Do you know if Abraham Herring who died was also a negro, and if so was he a free man? Are the boy and his mother Jude, free persons? Could a slave own land? 3. Hi Allen! My cousin is descended from Robert Harvey (b. abt 1774 NC) and his first wife, Jennet White, thru' their son, John Travers Harvey (one of 8 children) and Rebecca Tinnin, thru' their son James Marcellus? Harvey and Catherine M. ___ thru' their son, James Nichols Harvey and Mary N. (Brown?). I believe the parents of Robert were Alexander Harvey and Ann White. Robert was also Sheriff of Bladen Co., NC we are told. He had another marriage to Sarah Lock but no children that we have found. This line migrated on to Lauderdale Co., MS where descendants remain today. Robert may have gone to Jackson, MS first. Do you all know why a child was named with the Newell name? There seems to be a connection with that family and they were neighbors in Lauderdale Co., MS later. Another name that seems connected is Tinnin, another neighbor. I cannot connect with the Ann Harrison you wrote about. Thank you for writing! Jeanette pjkh@comcast.net
