    1. [NCBLADEN-L] Samuel JOHNSON family
    2. Lynn Prettyman
    3. Hi, Dee, It has been sometime since I first introduced myself to you and I thought I'd let you know I have finally decided on the first family for which I would like what ever you may find to be available. My 4x ggf is Samuel Johnson, father of the Rev. Elias Davis Johnson, who later lived in Robeson County. I think I need to start with his father before I can move on to the reverend, so whatever you may have on Samuel, besides what is in the Heritage book, I surely would appreciate it. Many thanks, Lynn Prettyman Baltimore, MD marylindsay1@home.com

    3. John Brooks was a Lumbee Indian ancestor who took title to 1000 acres in 1735 (The Only Land I Know by Dial and Eliades). John Brooks' descendents are Lumbees who still live in Robeson County. 3. Here's some more - >From # 17 (this is the information leading up to the entry that I sent you) 790 THE SUTTON FAMILY OF BLADEN In the beginning -William Sutton (ca. 1757-1804) married 7 July 1779, New Hanover County, Susannah Hennesey. William Sutton's will, dated 9 October 1804, in Bladen County, names his sons, James, Robin and his daughters, Ann, Sarah, Catherine, and Hoper. William Sutton (17 March 1781-1 June 1845) married Elizabeth Corbett (3 January 1778-21 July 1845; both are buried in the Sutton Cemetery in Bladen County. The will of William Sutton, dated 28 January 1841, in Bladen County, names his son, William T. Sutton. William and Elizabeth had four known children: William Tistel Sutton (1817-1 December 1894) married Margaret Mulford (1817-22 March 1888); Sarah Jane Sutton (November 1820-4 July 1841) married 22 January 1835, Willie Alford Atkinson; Elizabeth Susan Sutton (8 July 1822-unknown) married Willie Alford Atkinson 27 December 1843, after the death of her sister; and Martha J. Sutton married Thomas J. Corbett. All four children were born and died in Bladen County. We will follow the first child.. . (the remainder of this entry is about the family of John Graham Sutton, your Martin's brother.) Submitted by Francis Smith Greene, 104 Greene Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337 (boy, would I be on the phone to her!) Note: there are many entries concerning John Graham Sutton and his wife Joe (Jo) Anna Hair and all of their children. >From # 45 (on the North East side of the Cape Fear River) 315 William T. He was definitely gone from Bladen by 1870 census. Britt is such a familiar name in Bladen that I tried to find some mention of any of the Britts traveling West - thinking that Martin's wife may have been a Bladen neighbor even though they were married in Columbia County, AR. Thomas Mulford (25 July 1849-7 November 1918); and John Graham Sutton (9 March 1858-29 October 1934) married 17 June 1890, Jo Anna Hair (10 December 1869-20 March 1946), the daughter of John Leonard Hair and Sallie Thaggard. The last three of these children are known to be buried in Bladen County. I'll work on this some more over the weekend, but this should get you excited. I was told that he died in the Civil War and that my Grandmother was his only child. I've had absolutely no luck in finding who his parents were and it's really driving me nuts !!! 3. Hi Everybody, This is great news for those of us who have been hoping for a Bladen County Heritage Book reprint, but you MUST let Lib Turner know if you want one!!!!!!!! The BCHS has moved heaven and earth to be able to offer it to us again, so don't miss this second chance. It would make an incredible gift for a "senior" member of any family whose roots are in Bladen. Even if the "remembered" facts in some of the entries have proven to be a "tad" off, the spirit, love and community of Bladen shines through every entry. As researchers, we can almost always find accurate dates, but it's impossible to capture the texture and essence of the lives of these people unless you read the Heritage book. Dee, Guess what ? I think your letter really did help. We are now being offered a discount if we reprint. I am sure now that we will be reprinting but The Bladen County Historical Society meets July 21, and at that meeting we will be deciding the quantity to publish. If you know of anyone wanting a book, tell them to let us know NOW. We will be publishing some extra but it would help to know how many really want the book. THANK YOU , DEE !! We are still receiving donations in your Honor. 3. when I attempted to post a > new message & a reply I had to log in. It stated "In order to use this > feature you must be a registered user". > Can you help with that.....? The registered user part should be the log in where you create an idenity for yourself. If you are a subscriber to the pay side of ancestry you can use that identity on the free side which is rootsweb. The idenity will allow you to change your address and name, if you ever want or need to, on all of your new posts. Since I am a cc in another couple of states and a subscriber to the pay side, I didn't have the problem becoming a registered user. Click on the register tab at the top of the ancestry page or enter through rootsweb and look for a tab on the main board page for registration. Deborah Byrd
