Sonya, yes we have talked before via phone and e-mail. I do have more info on Hagar Brown but I would rather you call me. If you still have it, my phone number is 412-469-2412. I may have additional info for you on the Browns of Bladen County (African Americans) since the last time we communicated I have viewed the 1900 & 1920 Census for that area. Hope to hear from you soon, James.
Kay, if Patience were born in Bladen, then she must have been James WEST's daughter. James and family were enumerated 1790, at which time he was the only known WEST in Bladen County; his Daddy, James, having moved 1780 or 1782 to Duplin. Additionally, James enumerated Bladen 1790 had a sister Patience West, so it seems likely he would have named a daughter for his sister. At any rate, thanks for the information. Yes, if there are other known children I would appreciate having their names and any other info you have concerning them. Thank you. I read your reply and offer the following info. William Henry Beatty was born Dec 15, 1768, Dublin, IRE, the son of Samuel Beatty and Bridget Day-Beatty-White-Anders. He died June 13, 1853, Rowan, Bladen County, NC. William married Sophia E. Gibbs, daughter of George Gibbs, who owned the GIBBS Plantation located in Bladen County. I have learned that the Gibbs owned over 60 slaves prior to the emancipation. I do not know if a list exists with the first names of all the slaves owned. I do know that most of them are named in wills bequesting them to other family members as property. The problem I have is, I don't know if the list exists under the GIBBS wills or BEATTY wills. Could you assist me in the matter. The name I am interested is Lucien (slave baby boy) or the named of his slave mother. Thank you, I'll keep in touch.
I am searching for information on the parents of Neil MCMILLAN, who served in the War of 1812 enlisting in Bladen Co, NC in the NC Militia Company of Capt. John NICHOLSON. Neil MCMILLAN married 1831 in Perry Co, AL Mary Ann MCDONALD & migrated to Neshoba Co, MS, where he died 1873.

Listmembers, I have been told that Patience WEST born 23 January 1786, died Bladen Co. after 1850 married David ANDERS. Does anyone have information of any kind on this family? Can anyone document this marriage? Thanks. Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net
Listmembers, I was given information that Mary JONES, sister of Musgrove JONES married Bladen Co. 22 July 1767, Benjamin FITZRANDOLPH. Mary FITZRANDOLPH married Bladen Co. Joseph SINGLETARY and that Carolina FITZRANDOLPH married Ithamar SINGLETARY---not sure where that marriage took place. Can any listmember provide documentation of these marriages via deeds, Bible records, etc.? Does any listmember know of a WEST connection to any of these persons? Gibson WEST and Musgrove JONES, 1815, witnessed a Bladen deed for HENDON/JOHNSON. I know there was a connection but do not know what and where it was. Is any listmember aware of any BURTON family living about 1815 near any THOMAS and WEST households of Bladen? Thanks for any help/clues/sources/suggestions. Fran fpowellsr@starpower.net

I am researching my family history and I have been able to trace my great grandfather, Lucien Beatty, being born a slave on the old GIBBS Plantation, around 1852/1853. I f you have any records with the slave first names between the years of 1850 through 1868, it would be greatly appreciated and would help me in researching my family heritage and history. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Hi Allen, I have some old local history books, I'll look him up when I get a chance. It would be nice to go to Elijah's tonight - sure is to hot to cook. But it is also to hot to go out so I guess a sandwich will have to do. Hope you are keeping cool. Dale
Elijah's is right. Excellent food & service. I believe there is a marker in downtown Wilmington regarding Houston. He married the daughter of Betty's 5th-6th g grandfather I believe. It is an interesting story. Hi Betty, Thanks. I don't remember the Wm Houston incident. Yes I have eaten at Elijahs, I believe that is the place you are probably thinking about. It is excellent. I would recommend it to any body. Dale
Dale --- We'll have it out in the morning. Remember the info on Wm Houston, the one hung in effigy there in Willmington while Stamp Collector --- He is connected to my wife's family. Have you had a meal at "Isaiah's" on the river. We have eaten there several times and really enjoyed it. Hope this B To B helps. Should you need any other let us know. We have some info on McKay/ Lloyds through the Kemp family. The McCoy, I believe, was the wording of many Af-Am who came through the McKay line. If wrong I apologize.
