    3. I would sure try Margaret Hofmann. If she can't get her hands on one nobody can. Check the URL below my name and scroll to the bottom for sources and Margaret's e-mail address. Tessie, Margaret's daughter, is adorable and will probably be the one who responds to your e-mail. 3. Hi Annie, I checked on the omission of Brown Marsh. It was not included in the Heritage Book section on churches. Instead, it is listed in "Historic Places and Events" with three other churches. Only one of the four churches in the historic section is mentioned in the church section so I will list the other three here: >From # 17 Historic Places and Events Brown Marsh Presbyterian Church, 1818 Purdie's Church in the Nineteenth Century, 1803 South River Presbyterian Church, as early as 1757, formal organization in 1795 As for resending the list of churches - sorry, I delete everything as soon as I send it unless I'm waiting for a reply. Check the archives. 1. Re: [NCBLADEN-L] Lookup request for Marmaduke Rols
    2. Dee Thompson
    3. Hi Bushy, I think if you say it out loud you will come up with RAWLS. There was a Duke Rawls in Chowan in 1763 and Marmaduke Rawles in Bladen in 1777. Marmaduke witnessed a deed on 20 Feb 1777. >From #36 paraphrased: Benjamin Rawls and John Rawls of George Town District, South Carolina sold four parcels of land in Bladen in 1798. >From # 135 paraphrased: Abram Ralls is listed as a single poll taxpayer in 1789 in Bladen County. I can't find Marmaduke in the Testator's Index, Bladen County Wills, Bladen County Cemeteries, South Carolina Will Index, Georgetown, South Carolina Wills or North Carolina Land Grants in South Carolina. He's also not in the Heritage Book, the 1800 Census or any other deed or grant books that I have. I was working with the theory that if Benjamin and John were his family he might have been heading for South Carolina, but he seems to have disappeared after the 1790 census of Bladen County. If you have any info pertaining to the slave rolls on the Beatty/Gibbs Plantation once known as Pleasant Retreat, please share them with me and I will share all info that I have retrieved up to this point. Joshua should have been born around 1816. I am looking for info pertaining to his parents who were also slaves on this plantation. Please e-mail me or contact me by land line 412-469-2412.

North Carolina's rootsweb folk are particularly noteworthy. These historians and genealogists have gotten right back into their "research mode". Great therapy to be sure. Longfellow had some encouragement, written some 160 years ago.
