There was also a Thomas, and ThomasJr. Carroll. I am wondering what information we might be able to exchange. We think these are our Carrolls and the next step in our genealogy search. Write me at my regular e-mail and perhaps we can accomplish something. Thanks, Cora

I am not sure if it is close to the school or not. I don't live close to it, I just know it is my aunt and uncles property.I live in Salisbury, NC now, and use to live in White Oak. Like I said I am not sure they will be receptive at all to visitors or questions, so I would not suggest you go back in there if you can find out for sure where it is. I wish I could help you out more, but I do not know the area well. There use to be a lady who worked at the Munn and Munn's neighborhood store who knew where it was. I am not sure she would be there any more. That was about 20 years ago when I was trying to find it and got lost in a HORRIBLE rain storm like they only have in Bladen County.I know it is not far from Munn and Munn's though. That is about the best I can give on directions. I have not been hiding for 45 years believe me. I am only 47 so that explains part of it and I do not research Munn. I just notice it since my aunt was a Munn. I w! ish you luck. Please let me know if you find it. If you do and someone knows where it is I would highly suggest you call first if you attempt to go back in there. If they know the location they would also know the name of the ones who live there. I hesitate to post that since I do not know how they will feel about this. Hope you can understand. If there is anything further I can do to help you out, I will try, but I am not sure there will be much. I can tell you the little I know about the plantation and some of the things found there and that is about all. There is a little more about the plantation itself, but not much that I know. Did you know there was a Munn Plantation? I am not sure how far back it dates, but I know to around the time of the Civil War. My Aunt's maiden name was Munn and she and my uncle now live on what use to be the old Munn Plantation. They are white. I have been there many times as a child. I wish I could promises you all some help, but I do not know if I can or not. I know they have some deeds of slave sales they found in the house as well as many other artifacts. They have a Civil War sword used by an ancestor I believe to be Daniel Munn who served at Ft, Fisher during the Civil War. There is a picture of him in the museum at Ft. Fisher. It was donated by my aunt. From what I have been told over the years slaves took on their owners last names. I have not watched your conversation real close, but thought I might be of a little help. I hope I have been. By the way. The plantation I speak! of is located in a little community called Tar Heel in Bladen County. The old home still stands, but barely. It has been moved from it's original location. It was a white two story when I saw it and had an upstairs sitting room where they use to keep the chickens from what I have been told. Like I said, I use to visit there and play there as a kid. It has a pond on the property, HAD grape orchards, lots of trees and is way back in the woods. There is a Munn and Munn's grocery store in Tar Heel as well. I imagine some of them are your relatives. I will help in any way I can, but I do not think I will be able to much. I cannot even get this branch of the family to help me with our own family history. Also, Cannady connects to my family as well, but I have not found out how yet. I believe it was by marriage only. Good luck with your searches. Take Care, Sharon Dover Romanek

The old man William shows up in Anson Co, NC deed record INDEX in the middle 1700s ...page number, however, is incorrect and I can't find him. Andrew is also in Anson (1755). Dear John, No one has submitted anything on your Edmond Brown, Robeson County ancestor for publication in the Robeson County Heritage Book. Please consider writing an article on your ancestors. We, the Committee, are depending on descendants like yourself to submit something. Remember, if you don't do it then no one will and we certainly don't want your ancestors to be left all together. Please read the following, and get back with me as soon as possible. Sam West Lumberton [Robeson Co] NC ================================== ROBESON COUNTY HERITAGE BOOK ================================== Hi, For those who would like to submit an article on your Robeson County Ancestor(s), you now have a limited "window of opportunity" as the deadline has now been extended to JANUARY 15TH, 2002! Do not let this opportunity slip by, and start working on your article now! For all that our ancestors have done for us before we were even born, we really owe them a lasting tribute in this book. We must remember, that if we don't write an article for them, then it is likely that no one will do it for us. We already have hundreds of articles submitted, so don't let yours be left out. As long as the main subject of your article was here in Robeson County at sometime during his/her life time [i.e., born, died, married or resided], then you are eligible to write about them. Remember, if your subject ancestor was here after 1850 then you may submit 500 words and one photo free. If the subject ancestor was here in 1850 or before, then you get an additional 500 words and an extra photo, making a total of 1000 words and two photo submissions free. If your article is longer than what is mentioned above then it is only 10 cents per word extra and $12.50 per photo extra. For being published in a professional printed in a high quality hard bound book, this is very reasonable. All articles/stories must be in a flowing, narrative form. The publisher cannot publish any genealogical charts or tabular materials. Please arrange your article in the following manner. Double-space 1) Title [List your main subject somewhere in the title] 2) Article. [The body of the article itself] 3) Submitted by [name and address of submitter] 4) Sources [list briefly the major sources used, i.e.: Robeson Co NC Deeds, Marriages, Wills, Census Records, etc...] 5) Caption to photos [eight words max] 6) Word count [computer generated or actual = You only count the words contained in 2) the body of the article itself. Do not include 1) Title, 3) Submitter], 4) Sources or 5) Caption to photos, or 6) Word count] Your article(s) may be just as elaborate, or just as simple, as you want it. You can even go by an obituary in compiling an article, just add birth, death and marriage dates, tell where a little about them, i.e. where they worked, their occupation, their religious affiliation or military service, etc... if known. The simplier you make it, the better it will be. We are depending on the descendants of each Robeson Co NC Ancestor to write articles about their ancestors. Unfortunately, if you don't write something up and submit it on your ancestor(s), then no one else will probably not submit anything either. Our goal is to publish a great book on Robeson Co NC families, but we cannot do it without you participating and submitting articles on your ancestor(s). We don't want any family left out! You may submit your family story for publication in this professionally printed high quality hard bound book for free [see brochure for qualifications]. As you already know, only one Family Article can be published under the free status. But, where there is a, will then there is a way. If you would like to know more about submitting additional articles, then contact me directly at: SAWESTGTWY@aol.net or call me any evening after 9:00pm [eastern time] at 910-738-3302. Please click on to the site below for more information and details on how to submit articles: http://www.geocities.com/bjbarnhill/heritage.html All submissions of articles/stories should be mailed directly to: Robeson County Heritage Book Committee PO Box 2292 Lumberton, NC 28359 Remember, this is your window of opportunity. Isaac Hobbs appears in the 1800 census for Bladen County with 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male over 45, and 3 females under 10. I didn't find him on the Bladen census for 1810, but he appears in Columbus County in 1820. Since Columbus was formed from Bladen in 1808, I suspect that he was in the area that became Columbus. Archives. index page 217 (2 entries indexed- only one was found) 1854 March 10, The Petition of sundry Citizens of the 14th District of Common Schools in the County of Richmond and State of North Carolina respectfully showeth unto you that we are aggrieved by our own present Committeemen for the fact of their moving our common school house from it's present location, when there is no necessity or such movement. First, because we have a comfortable School House situated in the center of the Children that attends the School, with as good a spring of water as there is in the County. Second, because if the School House is moved there are three large families of Children that cannot attend School on account of crossing bad swamps ... Your petitioners do therefore pray that you will duly consider the premises and not suffer our School House moved for these and various other reasons that we can and will make known to you. Your Petitioners as in duty bound ever pray. [Signed] Petitioners 14th District James Rachels (plus 12 additional committeemen) Good luck, Sloan.
