    3. Barb, I am not sure if I corresponded with you before. Moses Meares's sister, Mary Ann, was my gg-grandmother. She married James Wesley Grimes in Bladen County. My Mother was a Grimes. I was on a genealogy search in Elizabethtown, Whiteville, and Lumberton, NC about two weeks ago. At the libraries in Whiteville and Lumberton, there is a book entitled "The Meares Family". It ties our Bladen, Columbus, and Robeson Counties Meares to those in old Accomack County, VA through Mark Meares of old Dobbs County, NC. However, I visited Accomac County, VA this Spring and they have only one Mark Mear(e)s listed and show he died there. Maybe there were two Mark Mear(e)s in old Accomack County, VA. 3. Barb - I have not found anything in Cemetery or Bible page records of Bladen Co. except the 1800 census. According to the Bladen Heritage Book, # 601 pg 213 "The Meares/Mears Family" that Mark & Elizabeth Mears of old Dobbs Co., NC, were the progenitors of the Meares family in Bladen Co.. Tradition states that Mark Nears came from Accomack Co., VA. It states that Mark and Elizabeth were the parents of at least 5 sons: Jacob, Joel, Jonathan, James, and Jesse --- referred to be researches as the 5 Js found in Bladen County in the late 1700s. Jesse apparently moved to Robeson Co. It appears your Jesse may be the one that moved to Robeson Co. since he has a son Moses as you stated. This material was submitted by Russell Lee Buddy Meares of Whiteville, NC, 28472; 413 Canal Street. You may wish to contact him. I am not a Mears descendant. My wife's family comes from the STREETY, POYNTER, KEMP, RUSS families of Bladen Co..
