After looking through the records I discovered there are two Comfort Hesters one was the daughter of Thomas the other the daughter of John. They were brothers Thomas's Comfort married the Brisson and John's Comfort married the Singletary Apparently the person who wrote this website was confused on this point maybe you should contact them and help them get the right information. I had just been on the site and thought the information might be helpful. Sorry for the confusion. Click here: Descendants of Thomas Hester Generation No
Thanks for posting your web page. Several of my Bladen County, NC families are related to your Hesters. One connection is Healon Allen (1815-1850) that married Steven M. Brisson (1815-1903), son of Anthony Brisson and Comfort Hester. See http://jimcooke.tripod.com . Can anyone on the list identify for me who this Edge is? I have several Leonard's but none of them married an Elizabeth Taylor, or had a daughter named Gertrude. Thanks in advance for any help. Sharon Dover Romanek Gertrude Edge (6 May 1896 Bladen County - 16 May 1984 Fayetteville), daughter of Leonard Edge and Elizabeth Taylor, married 20 December 1913 in Black River Township of Cumberland County James Claude Phillips (June 1875 Sampson County - 21 March 1947 Dunn), son of William H. Phillips and Margaret Ann Smith. Gertrude and James are buried in Dunn's Greenwood Cemetery. Nine children. ====================== Information was from a death certificate that indicated he was from Bladen County. I have a copy of Herbert Russ' book on the RUSS FAMILIES. Herbert says that "Capt Brisson was probably of Lafayette's French Army, brought over to help America during the Revolutionary War; he may have been Chevalalier de Brisson, who was commissioned Lt. Colonel by the Continental Congress. He married Huldah Russ and returned to France." If you need more info from the book please let me know. Hi James, "Pleasant Retreat was destroyed by fire in 1892" - this is according to Laura Day Beatty Rosser (Mrs. Clyde B. Rosser), 815 Lynn Drive, Sanford, NC 27330 in her entry 244 WILLIAM HENRY BEATTY. I don't have any photographs or pictures of the house but if Mrs. Rosser doesn't perhaps the Bladen County Historical Society will. I recently received the full copy of William Henry Beatty's will and in it he states that he built a home 40 miles from Wilmington on the road to Fayetteville along the Black River just below a toll bridge which is named Beatty's Bridge and called the homestead Pleasant Retreat Plantation. I have learned that the house burned down in either the late 1890 or early 1900. If you can, could you help me in maybe locating pictures of this house. Thanks a bunch James.
