A lot of the information I have came from my mother's first cousin, not legal documents. I remember her coming to our house when I was young to get information about our family. I don't know if any of her records came from a Bible or not. I have a Henry Carter who married a Walters; William A.; and a Catherine. We have a Gabriel Carter---have you heard of that name? My great grandmother was born in Georgia and came to Columbus County, next door to Bladen. Happy Hunting! Evelyn

My son-in-law's CATER family was of Cumberland county. In his family lineage are two brothers: Henry & John CARTER, son's of John CARTER of Cedar Creek twp, Cumberland county. This John Carter was born about 1770 in NC and died sometime after 1850. Another researcher tells me John Carter was son of Jesse Carter (died about 1811 in Cumberland county, NC). The lineage from there is uncertain but reportedly is form a John or John Joseph Carter born about 1724 in VA and died about 1751 in Turnbull, Bladen county, NC. See my web page for further info. The family was in Cumberland County North Carolina from about 1740 to 1830; then many moved to Henry County, Alabama in 1830 and later. Mel Bivins

Enoch is recorded in the Fort Fisher records as Enoch Bordeaux. However, in the New York records, he is recorded as Enoch Mindex and Enoch Murdeaux. There is also a conflict on the date of death. It is either February 10th, 1865 or April 10th, 1865. Dee, I mainly was interested in Enoch Bordeaux who was captured at Fort Fisher during the Civil war and taken to Elmira NY as a POW. He is supposed to be buried in Woodlawn National cemetery there but I cannot find him on the list. Someone had told me that he was listed differently with a last name that sounded something like Bordeaux. Some of the info I have also spells Bordeaux as Bourdeaux. Enoch was my GGGrandfather. Tracing his line back to my 10th Greatfather, Jacques de Bordeaux who came from Grenoble, France to Charleston in 1680. Jacques parents were Evremond de Bordeauxand Catherine Fresene, also of Grenoble. Evremond was Son of Pierre de Bordeaux. Pierre was the son of Francis Purcell of Bordeaux. Francis was a deseendent of Sir Godefroy de Bourdieu who fought in the third crusade in the year 1187 and was knighted by King Phillip II of France. Any thing you can tell me about this line and especially aboout how Enoch Bordeaux is listed in the Woodlawn registry will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Woodrow Smith-- Original Message ----- From: "Dee Thompson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2005 7:47 PM Subject: Re: [NCBLADEN-L] Re: [Huguenot] Pons? Hi all.........I live in Charleston........a while back I was doing some "curiosity research" on former Charleston Mayor J. Palmer Gaillard and ran across a site with a good bit of his genealogy on it........can't presently recall the URL, but I'm sure if you search on Google, you'll find it.
