Remember that the court house burned 3 times, last about 1893. Birth/ death start about 1903-1910. You cannot find marriage records before 1893. A trip to the courthouse is great and they are very helpful. Birth & death are 25cent a page if you do it.

Located between Bladenboro and Elizabethtown, NC off Hwy 242. Follow an unpaved road off SR 1116 immediately North or the intersection of SR 114 and SR 1116. The unpaved road ends at the cemetery. Blanche was born Sept. 20, 1881 and murdered Sept. 3, 1904. The two men found guilty of her murder, Brown and Sellers, were executed by public hanging on the courthouse lawn in Bladen County. Blanche was the daughter of Frank and Martha Russ. She had a younger brother named Willie. Willie found Blanche on the morning of the murder. News article reads: " An Awful Crime in Bladen County: Mrs. Geo Packer, a respectable young.... woman, was..... murdered at her home near Clarkton, Bladen County, about 10 o'clock this morning, ..........The woman was dragged to a point 200 yards from the house...... and her throat cut ........ "

You are correct there is a set of Native Amercan/Mulatto Carters who appear to be old familes. Possibly the name Cater (of eurpean orgin) may orginate from your set.

I don't know where my great-great-grandfather John Carter (born 1805) came from, I assumed Georgia, because that is where his wife, Martha (born 1810), came from. I don't know any of his brothers or sisters names, I wish I did. His daughter Molcey, (my great-grandmother, was born in Georgia. I would love to know more about your Carter family. Thanks, Evelyn

    2. There is a Sandy Grove in Davidson County, NC East of Lexington where US 64 crosses I-85. There is a Sandy Grove in Hoke County, NC East of Arabia and NW of Lumber Bridge at the intersection of Road 1003 and Road 1105. I am looking at topographic maps and the number for Road 1003 is not clear and could be another number. Wayne A
