Kay -- Thank you for the information of Lib Turner. This was a shock and our prayers go out to her husband and family. This past August while in E'town we talked with her on the phone. We wanted to take her out for lunch, but she wasn't up to anything at the time. Again, Thanks for your help. I just got back in town so this is late. Those of you that have gotten the Bladen County Books put out by the Bladen Historical Society may have gotten them from Lib Turner. She died last Friday, September 30, 2005, at New Hanover Hospital. A complication of Diabetes according to my mother. She was very active in many of the history organizations in Bladen County. She worked for 40 years at the local hospital as head of the lab. Both my mother and I worked with her over the years there. I have felt that in a lot of ways Lib took over where Wanda Campbell left off when Wanda died. They both tried to preserve Bladen History. The Obit can be found at www.Bladenjournal.com. Roger --- You might contact the Register of Deeds office at the Bladen County Courthouse in Elizabethtown. I believe they may have the marriage records going back that far along with birth & death records, also delayed birth records. From # 117 MISCELLANEOUS RESEARCH DATA 1842 Alexander Campbell b. c.1790-1800 m. Sarah Pate, daughter of Stephen and Honor Pate. Their children were Phillip Campbell (1822-1908) m. (1) Ellinder H., m. (2) Matilda Thomkins Medlin (Mullin?); Alexander Campbell, b. 1827 m. 26 Dec. 1844, Elizabeth Parker; Daniel Campbell and Margaret Ann Campbell. This family may have lived in Carroll County, Tenn. during the 1840's. All four children were placed under the guardianship of Richmond L. Pate (Brother of Stephen) during Sept. 1842 Term Carroll County Court. NOTE: This indicates that Richmond L. Pate was the great-UNCLE of the four children - not the uncle (brother of Sarah/Sally). Dee In 1839, the Huntingdon (TN) Republican newspaper advertised a land sale to settle the estate of Stephen Pate, with some proceeds going to "Alex. Campbell, in right of his deceased wife, Sally". In September 1841, Carroll County (TN) Court Records show that Richmond Love Pate (Sally's brother b. 1814) was made guardian of Philip, Alexander, Daniel, and Margaret Campbell, the children of Alex. Campbell and Sally Pate Campbell, which suggests that Alex. Campbell had died or abandoned the children. Sally Pate's father, Stephen Pate was stilll living in Richmond County NC in 1830. The household appears to include Sally and her two oldest children, but no Alex. Some evidence exists to suggest that Sally Pate died enroute to West TN as her father and brother, Samuel Duncan Pate immigrated around 1836. I have been trying to find Alex. Campbell's parents and any evidence of what happened to him. I am looking in neighboring counties. I knew that there was a James Campbell (1756-1842) household in Bladen County and that they had a son named Alexander about whom little was known. I was hoping for a connection. Just today I have made contact with a lady who owns an old journal from the family of Alex. Campbell's daughter, Margaret in which she says that her father returned to Scotland after the children were adopted to tend to some business. So now I am looking for a ship's manifest from the US to Scotland 1839-1841 with Alexander Campbell onboard. Do you have any sources for that information? Bladen_County_lookupHi Rexanna, I can't find them at all! I found a later marriage of a Sugg groom and a Lucas bride. I checked Bladen County Heritage book, Montgomery County Heritage book, Ancestors, Wills of Bladen and Montgomery counties, Marriages of Bladen and Montgomery counties, Early NC Will Abstracts and Testators Index (no Will for George or Sally/Sarah, and one William Lucas, Will filed 1824 in Guilford County) I did find a Colonel George Lucas, d. 1807 "for several years a representative from Chatham County in the legislature". In another book this George Lucas had a 21 year old son, Peter William Lucas, of Brunswick, VA, who also died in 1807. I hope you can help me. I am trying to get information on a George Lucas who married Margaret Sugg(s). I find a George Lucas in the early (1790-1810) Bladen censuses. Later he was in Montgomery Co NC. He was born approx. 1742, supposedly came over from England. One of his sons, William Lucas (my ancestor) was in the Rev. War. Don't have much more than that on him. Surnames: LEWIS<MOON<MOORE Have you looked at J.D. Lewis's web site, _www.senclewises.com_ (http://www.senclewises.com) ? He has info on five Lewis families of south eastern North Carolina/South Carolina that includes Bladen County. Under Key Lewis Family # 1, check out "The descendants of William Lewis and Mary ___ of Bath county, NC. They had a son son named Solomon who was born about 1715. Also, in the same family line, he has identified a Solomon Lewis who was born ca. about 1755 in Bladen County and was the son of Hanson Lewis (??? your Solomon). I'm sure J.D. would love to hear from you. He has created a wonderful web site and is quiet the historian. Your mention of Revolutionary War papers of Solomon would be of interest to him, I think. If this is your Solomon, then we are related. I descend from the Josiah Lewis line of which I have now been working on five years. Good luck. Rebecca Lewis Tate

He married Catherine Moon/Moore in 1790 (she was born 1759 in either Bladen or Henry County, North Carolina). She must have been a second wife as he had twin daughters Susan (Molly) & Mary (Polly) Lewis born Jan. 1, 1781 in Surry or Guilford County, North Carolina. He also had a son Solomon Jr. born 1791 in North Carolina. Some of the family names are Charles, Isaac, William, James, Reuben, Isaac, Stephen, Cyrus & John. It is thought that he may have had connections to William, Fielding, and Jessie Lewis families who also settled in Claiborne County Tennessee. An early Missouri history book says Solomom Jr. and an Axley Lewis were two of the early settlers in Livingston/Carroll County Missouri area along with James Bunch. I have no clue as to Solomon 1750's siblings, parents, first wife, or other children. Can any connections be found in Bladen County Lewis family research? Solomon apparently left Bladen/Cumberland County when he volunteered for several 3-6 month tours in the war. He then says he lived in Henry County, Virginia; Washington County, Virginia or Tennessee; and finally Claiborne County, Tennessee by about 1810.Tennessee. Solomon died there 3-6-1843. Any leads/ideas/help? Thanks!!! Oh, there is apparently also a family tradition of being connected to the Merriweather Lewis family -- but you know how those things can go.
