Virginia there was a Henry and Hugh Dundalo here in Bertie County, I have long suspected that he ties into my Charney C. Dundalow family. The name had various spellings; Dunnelo, Dunnels, Dondelow, Dundelow to name a few. I'm sure this is the present day spelling Dunlow. This Henry Dundalo seemed to vanish before or ca. 1790. The Charney Cale that I connect to used the name Charney C. Dundalow for years. He was born ca. 1779 and died in 1860. He married Elizabeth Harmon in 1804 as Charney Cale, though he was a Dunnelo-Dundalo before. He joined the army ca. 1807 as Charney C. Dundalow, he fought in the war of 1812 as Charney C. Dundalow. In 1818 and 1819 he purchased land here in Bertie as Charney Dundalow. All of his future land transactions were as Charney Cale. On February 11, 1857, P.H. Winston stated in letter concerning status of Charney of Charney Cale's land-bounty application to Federal Bureau of Pensions that Charney Cale was Charney C. Dundelow. "The Dundelow has not been used for years," also stated that "Charney served faithfully" five years in the army and the War of 1812. Charney Cale was in the regular army for five years before the War of 1812. He enlisted as Charney C. Dundelow. Charney's father was said to have been full blooded Indian, or better known as Chief Cucklemaker. I have never been able to tie this Henry Dunnelo in but I'm sure he connects somewhere!
