Just my 2 cents worth but I really believe that many of the people were referring to their step children when they would say "so and so- in-law" while listing the people in their household and identifying their extended family members. Indian Woods Township was/is in SW Bertie County. Thank you for making it so easy for the rest of us to read through the Bertie census.
