    3. s stands for Single thanks for the question, because I need to get the code on the other pages as well as the very first one.. Key to the following census list: 1. Names in household 2. Relationship to the head of household 3. Race 4. Sex 5. Month and year of birth 6. M = Married, S = Single, Wid = Widowed 7. How many years married 8. Occupation 9. Women may have an addition set of numbers to show the number of children they have given birth to, and how many of those children are still living at the time of the census. Example: 8/3 [meaning that woman had 8 children and that 3 of them are still living.] 10. Each household can be identified by a designated "head" family member, and the households are separated by a double space. 11. When a person listed or one of their parents were born somewhere other than North Carolina I will try to make it clear just who and where. 12. When possible please check out the actual photo copied census to verify accuracy and for additional information.
