    1. [NCBERTIE] Introduction; King HARRISON and Jennie WHITE
    2. Stephen Scurletis
    3. Hello all! I have just recently joined this list and thought I'd introduce myself. I am Stephen Scurletis of St. Louis, MO. My mother is Christine Harrison Scurletis, born in Bear Grass, Martin County and now lives in Williamston. I have been researching her ancestry, almost all of the lines of which seem to have been in Martin County since around or before 1800, which has made my task a bit easier as I have had to look mainly in only one courthouse for records! Surnames include: HARRISON, GURGANUS, KNOX, WHITLEY, MIZELL, MOBLEY, ROGERSON, and BIGGS. I know that King HARRISON (d.1836), my GGGG Grandfather through my maternal grandfather's line, obtained a marriage bond in Bertie Co. in 1786 to marry Jenny WHITE, that he bought land from a John OXLEY, Jr. in 1786, and that a Christopher HARRISON was appointed guardian of John OXLEY, Jr. in 1767, and that King and other HARRISONS were recorded as having purchased items at some estate sales in the 1790's. I also suspect that James HARRISON (1769-1840) of Martin Co., my GGGG Grandfather through my maternal grandmother's line, is probably related to King. These are the clues I have so far. I shall be visiting my mother in Williamston in late May, and am hoping to get over to the courthouse in Windsor for at least a day and see if I can dig anything further up on King and or James. I am of course curious to know if anyone else is working on HARRISON's in Bertie. I have been enjoying the discussions on this apparently rather active list! Stephen Scurletis
