Collen (or Cullen or Colin) Cowand is in my Cowand chart. He was the son of a William Cowand and Maybee Cake Cowand. William Cake Filgo was the son of Ann Cake (sister to Maybee) and Anthony Filgo --- which makes William Cake Filgo and Collen Cowand first cousins. Collen had a brother named Jonathan Cowand who was married to Sarah Sowell. Sarah was the daughter of Obediah Sowell, Sr., who's will was written in 1802. Sarah also had a brother named Obediah. As to your main interest, Joshua Wilson, I just don't know if he was kin to the others. I know that Wilsons lived near the others in Bertie, Ross Church area, and that a Wilson married a niece of Collen Cowand. Wish I could be of more help. Maybe others might know a connection. John
Thank you, John! Can you tell me which Wilsons were living in the Ross Church are and where is the Ross Church area? Did any of your Sowells end up in middle TN? Although I am not actively researching the Sowells currently, Sowell/Sewell is one of our connecting families who came out of VA through NC to Northern middle TN and then by 1830s to Mo. where they married some Mizelles. If I remember correctly, some of these Sowells of yours ended up in IL along with some Mizelles. I have always wondered it the family is connected. > From: Johncowand@aol.com > Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 13:45:23 EDT > To: NCBERTIE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [NCBERTIE] WM CAKE FILGO TO OBEDIAH SOWELL WIT: JOSHUA WILSON & > COLLEN ... > Resent-From: NCBERTIE-L@rootsweb.com > Resent-Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 11:45:36 -0600 > > Hi, Marilyn.
