For Group and Archives, My ancestor here is Catherine _____BRYAN ELLIS, widow of first William BRYAN who died 1744 in Bertie, she then married Aaron ELLIS, he died 1769. She and William are parents of Michael BRYAN. Her daughter Sarah BRYAN married Martin GARDNER. Catherine has appointed Martin to handle her affairs...this record does not lend anything new to my research, but I thought since I spent the time to obtain it, I would send it for the record...Cathy 1779 11 August " Estate Records Bertie County" "Court of Pleas" NCArchives April 2002 A Letter of Testamentary from Martin GARDNER Cathy Hart Farris State of No. Carolina Bertie County By order of the Worshipful Justices of the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the county of Bertie. It appearing to them that Cathrine ELLISS late of the county is dead and hath made and put her Last Will and Testament in writing and therein did appoint Noah HINTON Martin GARDNER and Robert GREGORY Execution thereof, and the said Martin GARDNER having prayed Letters Testamentary thereon the same is accordingly granted- These are therefore to impower the said Martin GARDNER to enter into and upon all and singular the good and chattles kites and credits of the said deceased and the same unto his possession take wheresoever in this state to be found and Inventory on oath return into the clerks office within ninety days from the date hereof and all the just debts of the deceased to pay so far as the Estate will extend or amount to.
