Most of the NA Barbres (and Barbare/Barbaree/Barbrey/etc.)are descended from Jean Barberie who arrived in NYC from France in April 1688. He had 2 sons, Pierre and Jean Pierre. All the different spellings of Barberie are descended from a son of Jean Pierre and that is also Jean Pierre (1698-1770),but he was called Peter. He married in NY to Elizabeth DuSauchoy and they had 2 sons Abraham (1723-abt 1762)b. in NY and Peter (abt.1725-abt1777)b. in NC & d. Bertie Co. He seems to have spelled his name Barbarie and his son Peter (1751-abt 1783) tended to spell his name Barbaree. I am going to do a DNA project and prove the above.
