    1. [NCBERTIE] 1787 State Census?

    3. I wasn't aware of a state census earlier than the 1790 federal census. How complete? How do I gain access to it? My ancestor, Blunt Cooper appears on 1790 and 1800 federal census. I know he was in the county at least as early as 1795. Will Cooper

    3. Hi Will, I checked the index for the 1787 NC State Census for your Blunt Cooper (or anything similar) and there's nothing contained in the published records. Although Bertie's census is available, many counties have been lost. NC passed legislation in 1784 for a state-wide census to be taken. The heads of the household are named and family members are enumerated under the following categories: White Male, aged 21-60 White Male, aged under 21 and above 60 All White Females Blacks, aged 12-50 Blacks, aged under 12 and over 50 The book is available for purchase through Amazon.com or if you have a subscription to Ancestry.com, the book is on-line: State Census of North Carolina, 1784-1787 About this book Source: Original data: Register, Alvaretta K.
