Bryant: I'm sure that we are related, although a bit distantly. My Lawrence ancestor Robert and his son Humphrey Lawrence lived in the Cashoke Creek/Cashie River area before the Revolutionary War. Humphrey's son Nathaniel left Bertie County for Charleston S.C. with older relations (Thomas Ashley, I believe) shortly after the war. I'm attaching a paper I prepared discussing the locations in Bertie County where my people lived. I prepared this last September after I visited Bertie and did some research. All of this is quite close to Merry Hill and, in fact, I stopped at the old store there and asked for directions. My grandfather was David Perry Lawrence and my Grandmother was Arrie Victoria Lawrence. My mother was Alice Lawrence (Allie) and my father was John Raleigh Bryant Sr. I had a number of relatives in the area, but I believe the last one that was alive was Rev. Glen Lawrence who died about 3 years ago. There are other distant Lawrence relatives in the area, but since I have not lived in that area for 50 years I don't know who they are. My mother had a brother named Paul Lawrence who had several children, mostly in the Chesapeake area. I would like to hear from you if you are related.
