Hello Everyone, I was wondering if there is someone out there who could locate on today's map the land in the following Byrd family deed: "Thomas Byrd, cooper, to Honnour Baker, Thomas Byrd, Jun., Henry Byrd and Edmond Byrd Aug. 9, 1735, for "...love goodwill and effection...unto my children " (1) to my daughter Honour Baker land on S Ahoskey Swamp and Loosing Swamp cont. 325 acres at Snake Branch. (2) To Thomas Byrd, Jun. land on Loosing Swamp cont. 640 acres. (3) To Henry Byrd land at Fork between Aholkey Swamp and Loosing Swamp cont. 325 acres. (4) To Edmond Byrd land at Ahotskey Swamp cont. 325 acres between Honour, Thomas and Henry..."the minor plantation whereon I now live." Wit: Jjohn Wynns, jurat, William Baker. August Court 1735." I am interested in Birds (Jernigans, Hollomans, Gilberts early in this neck of the wood, amongst of course my Harrells, Landings, Hargroves, Marshes) Thanks in Advance, Janet Hunter
Janet, I have Birds/Byrds who lived mostly in Bertie County. My great grandfather was William Thomas Byrd who was born in 1859. His father was James Bird whose residence is shown on an early map of Bertie County. His father was James Bird based on a marriage license. I feel like those other Birds/Byrds are related but so far I haven't been able to make a connection.
