I descend from Evan Ragland and his wife Susanna Pettus though their son Stephen Ragland who was orignally in Virginia  and who by 1730 was in North Carolina. I descend from his daughter Agnes Ragland who married Ephraim Merritt and after he died she married my next grandfather Joseph Langston ca 1760 in Granville County, NC.   Stephen Ragland was described in NC deeds as from Hanover Co., Va. His daughter Agnes was born in Bertie Precinct ca 1734.  I do not have a birth certificate for her.   Stephen' Ragland's will is in Northampton Co., NC in 1747.  By his death Stephen had accumulated 1, 690 acres of land and owned a tobacco warehouse and ran a ferry. His plantation is said to have been located on present day US Hwy 158 that crosses into Norhampton County.   Stephen Ragland was Royal Tax Collector of Bertie Precinct at one time.   I am trying to find more info on my family as  they were in several NC counties as the new ones were formed.   Any help would greatly be appreciated.   Marianne Dillow Illinois
