My Carter ancestor left Bertie Co. about 1808. His name was Turner Carter, b. ca 1780 Wife Elitha Jenkins m. Oct 1804 married Bertie Co. Children: William, Cullen, Margarate, Lewis Jenkins, Sarah Eliza, and Delilah Delilah and Margarate were born in NC 1806-07. The next child Cullen was born in Caldwell Co., KY in 1809. I have had difficulty in doing research as there was another Turner Carter b. early 1800s whose Mother was Margaret Carter. Margaret was the 2nd wife of Cullen Carter. The name similarities tend to make me think that there is a relationship there, but I have been unable to prove that. Turner Carter is mentioned in Margaret's will, but it is the younger Turner who remained in Bertie. Is anyone at all familiar with this line..or can you direct me? I have worked previously with someone who is familiar with the Cullen/Margaret line. We have not been able to identify the 1st wife. We have discussed the possibility that my Turner is from the 1st marriage but again we haven't found any proof. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
