Carol, The other Nichols family I think you refer to was in Christian Co., KY (in a part that later became part of Caldwell Co.) by 1804. I've been researching this line for several years. This Nathaniel Nichols came from Hertford Co., and was b. abt 1749, was d. by 21 Oct 1834. Some researchers have guess his birth at around 1775, but in 1805, he was exempted from taxes due to old age (Christian Co. Order Book 1805-1809). His first wife is unknown, but he had four proven children b. bef. 1791 by her, and a fifth that is presumed his but not proven. His second wife was Susannah Ward, widow of James Newsom (also from Hertford Co.). They had four children together. After Susannah died, Nathaniel married Mary Edrington in 1830, but she sued him for divorce in 1831. No children from this union. Peter, we talked a few years ago. Nathaniel Nichols of Bertie Co. had a brother, Willis. I believe that Nathaniel Nichols from Hertford Co. is a son of Willis Nichols, but still searching for evidence to prove it. In Caldwell Co., KY, both Nathaniel Nichols from Hertford Co. b. ca 1749, and Nathaniel, son of Josiah Nichols from Bertie Co., b. ca 1775, lived in the Lewiston area, so I do think they were related but haven't been able to prove it yet. Linda & Carol, Good to hear from you!? When Carol listed a Nathaniel Nicols in her line immdiately bells went off in my head, as I recall that you as well as Barbara were kind of stuck on proving out the connection to ?Nathaniel and Willis Nichols. So I thought perhaps Carol might have some new information on this for us. So do you think that Carol's Nathaniel Nichols is the same is the Nathaniel and Willis Nichols we are looking for? Also, I thought there were two Nathaniel Nichols. The first son of John and Mary Nichols from VA which also had the brother Willis. Then I thought that this Nathaniel had a son in 1759ish also named Nathaniel? If you an clarify this would be of great help.
