    3. While you are investigating www.familysearch.org, don't miss the digitized documents and digitized family history books, and the catalog of the holdings of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City which can be rented at a local Family History Center. The digitized records (censuses, vital records, etc.) can be found under the "Search Records" tab, then "Record Search Pilot."  The digitized family histories can be found under the "Search Records" tab, then "Historical Books".  The catalog to the library holdings that can be rented is under the "Search Records" tab, then "Library Catalog". 2. Does anyone know how to research relatives in another country (Greece) online or otherwise? My?great grandfather (paternal side)?came over from Karista, Greece. He came though Elis Island with two sons, one being my grandfather. He left behind in Greece a wife, and other male and female siblings.? Their last name was Arvinitis. I have the wifes first name also. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I can research the Arvinitis family over in Greece? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Peter Nichols

    1. Re: [NCBERTIE] White Family of Bertie County, NC
    2. Nina, I have several Whites connected to my relatives here in SC. Some of my relatives came from the Bertie County/Martin County areas of NC in the late 1700s to early 1800s. One connection is a Easter White born about 1800 married to Blunt Cain. Not sure if he was from Bertie, but others in this family were. Do you have any White ancestors that migrated to what was once a part of Marion County, SC? Would like to make some connections... Thanks, Susan in SC (working on Hymans, Gibbs, Keefe, Murrell, and many others!) In a message dated 8/3/2009 9:28:07 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, Ninajcobb@aol.com writes: Janine, and also Kevin. 1. Re: [NCBERTIE] John Thomas Bryant 1862-1917
    2. DUNNING
    3. Bonnie, Thank you for your reply.  How do you work on more than one family???? I'm doing well to keep up with the Dunnings.  But I understand because I worked on my Britt line at the same time as the Dnnings.  In fact, the Britt book was published first.   I was reading this message about the Bryants and I see that there is a Phelps married into that family.  Do your happen to know of a Jackie Phelps?  She lived up in Maryland or somewhere up Northeast.  Her mother lived, I THINK, in the Bertie area. Jackie and I corresponded for several years and then she just disappeared.  I'm not sure, but I think she used her maiden name of Phelps instead of her married name.  She trained dogs.  She told me that her mother knew quite a bit about Peyton..... his marriages and his kids and grandkids.  What her mother told her was passed on to me.  Some things she just couldn't find the answer too.  I don't rememember whether her mother came out of Peyton and Pheribee or Peyton and Penelope.  I'm guessing out of Penelope. I'm going to label the first Peyton as (I) for clarity.     Tell me how you come out of Jeptha Peyton and Betsy Dunning.  Maybe I can add to your lineage.  You understand that I have no proof from J.Peyton back to Jeremiah, just hard work and bigggg hints from records to make me think Peyton(I) was a son of Jeremiah Dunning.  Bunches of people are trying to find a father for him.  Maybe my suggestion that he  might be out of Jeremiah will help them look other places for something to prove it. Jeremiah(I) is mentioned in just a paragraph in my book.  I was so puzzled about who his children where.  On the 1790 Bertie census  Jeremiah had 3 sons, 16 and up, 5 sons under 16 and 3 daughters. Figure it up....it took 15-18 years to have that many kids.....so that tells you about how old he was and his kids were already teenagers. The enumerator made a big mistake by putting two more Jeremiahs on the census.  Only one Jeremiah was on the tax list of Bertie all those years...and one year before the 1790 census and on year after the 1790 census.   This Jeremiah(I),  and Pheribee, son of John (I) "appear" to have children named: Redding, b ca 1772, died young in Bertie, had 1 little son, Wm. Wm. b ca 1773. married Sarah Sholar/Bruce in Bertie, moved to Hopkins Co. TN John Randolph b ca 1775, moved to Hopkins Co, KY, married in Bertie ca 1799 Jeremiah(II) b ca 1785, moved to Hopkins Co, KY, married Nancy James George W. b ca 1790, moved to Hopkins Co, KY, settled in Weakley Co. TN. Minnie, m Shadrach Holder in Bertie, then went to Hopkins Co, KY Peyton b ca 1790 in Bertie d, in Hertford Co, NC Zachariah - nothing known   Th childrenof John Dunning(II),  and wife Sarah: John Jr ca 1748, Jeremiah (II), 1750, Shadrach, 1755 Uriah, 1754 Levinia Nichols 1760 Proved by will 1799.   My book sold out quickly.  It tells about John(I) and REbecca being the immigrant ancestor and the sons John (II), Jesse, and Samuel.  Samuel stayed in Bertie and most of those there now are out of him.  Jesse also went to KY.  My husband, now deceased,  was out of Shadrach.  The reason I started researching in 1961 was to find the lineage of my son, Chuck.  I have proved his line back to John (I) from England.  Chuck was the first Dunning to have his DNA  checked to pull all the Dunnings of Bertie together.  Later found that a DUnning family in Kent Co, DE, from England, has exact match.  They go way back in DE..   Do you live near Bertie? Do you know how I can get in touch with Jethro Peyton Dunning men that I could coax to have their DNA done? They have to be fathered by a Dunning.  It is only a q-tip rubbed in the jaw and mailed in the envelope.  I will pay for it.  I have helped many families back to Hopkins Co and then to Bertie and Jeremiah(I).  They have exact match as my son.  My problem is I just can't document Peyton's(I) family!!!!!   Gotta run, hope you aren't bored. If itdoen't make sense to you....question me! Please! Please send me your mailing address.  I haven't learned how to scan yet. Joyce 5609 Dana Drive Ft.
