    1. [NCBERTIE] Reply to Debbie Fields
    2. Linda Fields
    3. Debbie, I am a Fields by marriage and would be glad to discuss the Fields family lines with you. I believe my email address is listed ,you can contact me at my email address. I am researching Fields, Phillips, Thompson, Davis, Evers, Guyton, Hilburn Carroll,Cheshire,Parker, Regan Edwards, Simmons, Stanley, Stanaland, Smith, Norris ,Ross, several more . These families have early roots in Bladen, Brunswck. Columbus, Robeson Co, NC I have a special interest with William Evers, wife Elizabeth (Unknown maiden name) and son James Evers born 1740 in Bertie Co. i can track James Evers 1740 and his descendants, but have no idea where the Evers family came from that lived in Bertie. Very few known Evers at that time.

    1. [NCBERTIE] Respectful SOLUTION for disagreement with recipes and other posts not considered as pure genealogical research.
    2. Debbie F Murphy
    3. I agree Alan, BUT it would be Helpful and Respectful to those who are not interested in certain Posts and/or Topics, IF the SUBJECT is clear about what the post contains! i.e. Recipes, this never ending respectful disagreement thread (reminds me of the song my daughter sang for years "This is the song that never ends" from Sherry Lewis and Lampchops, the cookbook thread, etc. It will also be helpful to those of us who ARE interested in what the post contains, but the subject gives you no real clue, as it is often a reply to someone elses post without a change in the TOPIC, so we don't have to read the post to see if there is something there we are interested in.... So can't we ALL agree, to make sure we CHANGE THE SUBJECT, so it is clear what the post contains? And then, if we aren't interested in or don't like the Subject as in the Recipes thread, one can just hit delete without fear of missing something you are interested in. And a special Hi to Linda Fields, I too am a Fields by birth... maybe we can share some genealogy data?!? Just let me know ;-) After all that is the main reason we are all here, even though I personally believe everything about our ancestors is relevant. 3. The NC Maritime Museum has them new in paperback for $5.95. Says it usually ships the same business day. http://www.ncmaritimemuseum.com/oldcatoco.html Anyone else who wants to buy the cookbook should GOOGLE it first, I think you find MUCH better deals than on Amazon, IMHO.... We are in a recession, so I'm pinching pennies like my grandparents had to do in the Great Depression, well not quite that bad yet... I still cherish ALL the stories they told me about those times... some of them were lucky compared to most, others lost everything, others went from being a big shot in a bank to getting out and becoming Fuller Brush Man or whatever it took... Can't wait to read this! Yes, Nancy Jenkins was the youngest sister of Elitha Jenkins, according to Sharon Piche, who descends from their sister Celia. 2. Yes, that was the bond date. I do believe that is the same Elisha who married Happy Stallings... There are variations of the spelling of her last name...Stallings, Stallions and Stallins.. She was a daughter of Reubin Stallings. Her brother Moses was married to Nancy Jenkins, possible sister of Turner Carter's wife, Elitha. Turner Carter's 2nd wife Penelope was a niece of Happy. I recall seeing info on an Elisha Averitt Rhodes. It seems like he was a person of some importance. I think there is a bio of him on the Bertie County web site. 3. Now that book sounds worthwhile Claudia In a message dated 08/20/09 19:58:08 Eastern Daylight Time, puzlelady8109 writes: There is a cook book called Carolina Tobacco Country Cookbook that is not only a cook book but the history of tobacco country and that is what Bertie was at one time...Tobacco country! I KNOW, I was there. This book talks about a time between the Great Civil War and WWII but let me tell you , it describes Bertie the way it was until the late 1950's. I got mine at the museum in Bath, most museums in NC sell it for about $8 to $10. Amazon.com has it for sale from $11.88 to as high as $73. It even has medical advice....use juice from tobacco(chewing tobacco or snuff) for bee stings. Blow smoke in the ear for an earache. Reading it will take you to Bertie in the first half of the 20th century. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NCBERTIE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
