    1. [NCBERTIE] Fw: Cobb's of Bertie
    2. Bill & Dee Miller
    3. Hi Delores & Alice, Hi Delores we have talked about the Millers before but my question is about Susanna Cobb/ Redditt b. 1697 m. to Jonathan Miller 1710. I have notes that there were several children to her first marriage. I have no additional information on her. Do you know who her parents and siblings were? I also have Peter F. Cobb m. to Sallie Mills White and John C.W. Cobb m. to Penelope Trottman White b. 1831. Are they related in any way to Susanna Cobb? Thanks much, Stay warm, Dee Miller ..........Alabama billndee@gulftel.com

    1. [NCBERTIE] Finding: 1730 court minutes
    2. Crilley
    3. Sorry I didn't give more detailed instructions... I do want you to take a look!! http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/bertie.htm Scroll down the page to COURT RECORDs.... (or just click on Court Records in the right hand corner) you'll see Bibles....then Bios....then Census...then Church Records... and THEN you should SEE COURT... 1st item is the text for the minutes that Carmen has transcribed. 2nd item is the image of the 1st page (only one page) so you can see the original. She's not scanning future pages until she gets reassurance that the scanning doesn't damage the page....it is already in very poor condition. Hope this helps you find it...and please write me back if you have trouble...

    1. [NCBERTIE] 1730 court minutes
    2. Crilley
    3. I wanted to share some exciting news... Carmen Greer (with some help from a friend, Bill Schmidt) is transcribing some court minutes for the period around Aug 1730. These are from some original documents that she just discovered. I became very excited when I realized that these were NOT in the published books by Wynette Haun...so evidently they were not microfilmed. These are the Court of Pleas & Quarter...and we have one of the images on-line for you to see as well. I'm trying to go through the image right now to make some corrections as I read the handwriting. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/bertie.htm Take a look and maybe you can also help us out with some deciphering. For more information about the Court of Pleas & Quarter visit the Bertie county page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbertie/court.htm Virginia Crilley

It has been such a long time.......I am delighted to hear from someone who might know anything about this Cobb family....It has been the most destressing research that I have tried to do. One brick wall after the other... Who is your mother in law and who did she marry? I would love to talk to her. Does she have any idea who any of these married? Mary Martha (twins) Sarah Canaughton (was his wife a Perry?) George S. 1. [NCBERTIE] Cobb's of Bertie
    2. Hi Thanks for the pics....and thanks for finding that grave of J.T. Cobb. I know that this just has to be the gggrandfather of my kids, but how in the world am I going to prove it?????????with no death certificate. His marriage bond is not at the Bertie Court House and not at the Archives in Raleigh. He died in 1911. There were no Obits in the paper in 1911, Neil Baker looked for one. This is what I think about James Thomas Cobb (Oct 1872 - Nov 1911) I believe his parents are G. W. Cobb and Martha Matilda Shaw who married 1868 I am hoping to see the 1870 census on these guys...The 1880 census lists Martha as Martha A. Cobb.......not Martha M. Cobb George and Martha in the 1880 census have the following children listed Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace G. W. COBB Self M M W 32 NC Occ: Hir Hand Fa: NC Mo: NC Martha A. COBB Wife F M W 31 NC Occ: House Wife Fa: NC Mo: NC Bracton B. COBB Son M S W 9 NC Fa: NC Mo: NC Thomas COBB Son M S W 8 NC Fa: NC Mo: NC Caunorton COBB Son M S W 4 NC Fa: NC Mo: NC Braxton Cobb married Margaret H. Morris in 1897 Chowan Co. and his parents are listed George W. and Martha M. I feel very sure that this is the right family for my James Thomas who is listed above as Thomas. I think that this is the same family with more children......what do you think? In the 1900 Census of Bertie it lists the following: 1900 Bertie Co. Census Merry Hill Township George W. Cobb b 8/1847, age 52, born NC, Farmer, Married 32 yrs. Martha Cobb b 9/1848, age 51, " 12 children born, 9 alive now Sarah E. b 10/1882, age 17 Clarence W. b 10/1884, age 15 Claude E. b 9/1887, age 12 Mary b 10/1889, age 10 twin Martha b 10/1889, age 10 twin George S or ? b 7/1880, age 19 I am interested in the information that you have on the ancestors of Martha M. Shaw you said..... <I believe that Martha Matilda Cobb who was a Shaw is the daughter of Samuel Shaw and his second wife Sarah Lednum Hodder.  I have a little more info on the Shaws if you would like.> ........and again I really thank you for your help with this family. I have been stumped on the ancestors of James Thomas Cobb and wife Naomi Rebecca Phelps for many years. This is the first break....... Alice
