Children listed are: Betsy. m. Sprague; Sally m. Holly; John F.; Celia; Polly; Thomas L.; Blake, b.26 Jun 1804. d. 29 Aug 1852, Trigg Co. KY m. Edna J. Gresham; Chrisstian; Tinsey. This book has the Freeman family going far back. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting it all typed for the group, but my mother who just turned 87 and living with us has really been in bad shape and it has taken quite a toll on all of us. They came to the US I believe after that. A daughter called Elizabeth Speir married Bruce R. Leydig (07\26\1861). He was born in Muskingum Co., Ohio. Lived in Eldorado, Kansas (Butler County) and was a lawyer and member of the Republican State Legislature Judiciary Committee, City Attorney, etc. They were married I believe in 1888. Had three children: James Leydid, Newton; Robert Leydig of Huntsville, Alta. Marie Leydig born maybe in 1899 and married William Young Lathrop of California. I also have a Raymond Leydig mentioned who used to be a professor at Columbia Law School years ago. They had Elizabeth Jane Lathrop who married Lieutenant (Bob) Robert Andre Hunter on 10/08/1943 at Post Chapel, Roswell, New Mexico. They had Robert Hunter and Anne Lathrop Hunter (B 1944.Don't know how factual all of this is. Mary Reid was a sister to my gg grandfather, Charles Rei! d, who came to Nova Scotia, Canada from Scotland. There were other brothers and another sister, Janet.

But I believe the will stated Rachell as his granddaughter. I show a Charity Walston in the 1840 Edgecombe County Census. This census shows a Charity Walston as head of household. Listed living with her is one male between 30-39 years, 1 male 60-69. Oddly enough she is not actually counted, as no females are listed. Hope this helps.

"In NC, bastardy cases specified that the women would have to name the father of the child and the father would have to post a bond for the maintenance of the child. If the father could not post the bond, he would ask his friends, neighbors and relatives to help him out. These people became sureties, co-signers of the bond, and guaranteed that the upkeep of the child would be paid. If on the other hand, the woman refused to name the father, she would have to post the bond herself. (No such thing as welfare in those days.)" Lucy Ruffin

Appointd First Lieutenant to rank from date of enlistment. Present or accounted for until mustered out on November 13, 1861, at Raleigh, NC. Later appointed Adjutant of the Forty-forth Reg. North Carolina Troops. Also, later served in Companies c and f, Forty-fifth Regiment North Carolina Troops. " There were 4 brothers in our family line, Stark Armstead, John Mebane, William Thomas II, and Plummer. Three of these we believe to have served, not sure about Plummer.
