Other research indicates she may be part of Lewis Wimberly family of NC. She married Jacob Miller 3or9 April 1809 in Warren County, KY. By the mid-1830's they were living in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Jacob is listed as head of household in 1840. Rhody Miller (age 59 born in NC) is head of household in 1850 with 6 children and 3 grandchildren with surname Bassett. I just found Rhody and Jacob's marriage in KY so any guidance with this MILLER-Wimberly family is deeply appreciated. Also living in Bienville Parish are several other Wimberlys. Are they part of the same family? Rhody and Jacob are my 4g-grandparents.

Oct. 14, 1845; m. Pernecy Adline Backus; d. April 26, 1939). I believe he was the son of Garrison (maybe Gerrison; Gearison) Askew (b. 1810). Garrison married Precilla Harrel on Oct. 8, 1850. I think that Precilla must have been a 2nd wife. It also appears that Garrison had two other children besides William Preston before he married Precilla. They are John (b. 1838) and Sarah (b. 1846). William Preston is the father of Abner Addison Askew (b. Feb. 8, 1873; m. Maggie Nelson; d. Jan. 28, 1928). Abner Addison is my mother's paternal grandfather. Do any of these names match up with anyone else's line? Does anyone have any information to confirm that Garrison was or was not William Preston's father? Does anyone know anything about Garrison's first wife or Garrison's parents? Thanks! -- Eddie Swain

    1. [NCBERTIE] Statement from Thomas PUGH Esq. 1759
    2. Cathy Farris
    3. Dear Group and Archives, Below is a statement made by Thomas PUGH Esq. in 1759 to the court regarding a piece of disputed land between Needham BRYAN and James ABINGTON. These two have been going at it since abt. 1752 at court. In the earlier records I found under Civil Actions I couldn't tell what the court case was because it didn't say, I could only see who the case involved. Now I read a bit more of what may have been going on. And I also, have a hunch that the research problem I have been trying to solve for a few years now, may be hidden within these types of records. Many of you know that the problem I have encountered is...How did Michael BRYAN and his wife Olive obtain 100ac of land that they sold in 1757 to Aaron ELLIS (who later married Michael's mother Catherine, widow of the William BRYAN that died in 1744 in Bertie). A brief land description: Aaron ELIS his heirs and assigns forever and messuage or tract of land scituate lying in Bertie County of No Carolina containing 100 acres of land joyning to Robert HODGES patent line and SW to a corner forked Spanish Oak then east to Little Roquist. There was no will for William BRYAN giving the land to Michael. There was no land deed for William with a good land description. Plus William and Catherine had other children. So I am figuring someone else gave that land to Michael and Olive. The witnesses on the deed were James ABINGTON and Elias HODGE. From the statement below, if anyone has a comment or suggestion please share. Thanks, Cathy 1759 25 April Criminal Action Papers 010.326.6 NCArchives April 2002 Cathy Hart Farris (all spelling is as in document) on the outside of the document it reads Thos. PUGH Esqr. 1. [NCBERTIE] 1920 Census complete!!
    2. Crilley
    3. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/bertie.htm Scroll down to 1920 Census --- White's and click Hurrah! Claudia just completed the very, very difficult White's township. The handwriting combined with the condition of this film, made this one so hard to read. (So help us out on names if you see any) I know that she almost gave up in despair when she first started on this one....that's how bad it really was. So we are so grateful for all the eyestrain, stress !! , not to mention the hours involved in doing this. I believe that completes our 1920 census. I need to double check on the 1910 as I think it is almost complete (and may be complete) I got mixed up with James Shriver --- I think Marilyn may have done his and I know she's completed her section. Trudy--- did you complete yours? I think so...but just need to check so I can take off the "in progress"..... I also have a couple of corrections to be made..... Thanks to every single one of you who did this work....and to Othelia who got this ball rolling..... Virginia Crilley

    2. Cathy Farris
    3. Dear Group, I have recently found information on Blount PEARCE. Does anyone know him? He is the son of Thomas PEARCE and Mourning SPIVEY PEARCE. She was also know as Mourning BRYAN after her father Jonathan SPIVEY died, her mother Elizabeth CHURCHWELL HARRELL SPIVEY then married Jesse BRYAN. Mourning has a brother named William BRYAN SPIVEY. I found him on a document as an orphan of Mourning PEARCE in 1818. However he is about 26 by 1818. On the document cover it reads Blount PIERCE and then the names: Maria RHODES Louisa RHODES Harriet RHODES Who are these girls to him? And does anyone know more about Blount? He had a brother named William PEARCE that was born about 1794. Blount was born about 1795 or so in Bertie. The father Thomas died about 1798. Thanks, Cathy
