    3. Who was James Morris's wife? Bertie is and was loaded with Morris's and also Morriss's (they are the same people). I do have a number of Morris marriage dates from 1762-1868. As you know many Castellaws, Cobbs and others left Bertie for Haywood County, TN in the 1830-1840 time period. There is a James Morris listed in the will of Mathew Morriss on 6/5/1849. There was also a James S. Morriss in the will of Zadock Morriss on 8/15/1838. -----Original Message----- From: Reese Moses [mailto:reese@pchnet.com] Sent: Sunday, June 02, 2002 10:24 PM To: NCBERTIE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCBERTIE] 1830 Bertie Co census - Morris Thank you Jim, for your response. A cousin tells me that his grandfather handed down the story that the first Morris was Albert Thomas Morris who came originally from PA. I haven't been able to find an Albert Thomas anywhere. 3. While searching the 1830 Bertie Co. census recently, I noticed a William Morris, apparently70/80 years of age, living alone. Next to his name was Nancy Morris, age 30/40 and next to her name was James Morris. There is a mark as though it is one under the 100 + age! For years I've tried to get my Morris family past 1850 in Madison Co. Tn. These names shown here are names in my Morris family and they all show on later census records that they were born in NC. I have a James Morris, age 66 on the 1850 census in Tn. I also have in his household a Nancy and In 1850 I have been unable to find Wm. Thomas Morris anywhere. However I find him in 1860 and on until he died in Haywood Co. Tn. He would have been about 5-6 yr. old in 1850 according to the 1860 census If anyone knows anything about these people, please contact me. I'll be glad to share what I have from 1850 to present. 1. [NCBERTIE] Jimmy Carter's family
    2. Crilley
    3. http://www.jimmycarterlibrary.org/documents/jec/genealog.phtml Kindred Carter Kindred Carter (c. 1750-1800) came to Georgia from the Bertie-Edgecombe-Hertford area of northeastern North Carolina where his family had lived for several generations. He was of the 5th generation in descent from Thomas Carter, Sr. who came in 1637 from England to Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Thomas Carter's only known child was Thomas, Jr., who married Magdalene Moore and left a will in 1710. In that will, Thomas, Jr. did not name all of his children, but Moore Carter (c. 1680-1741) who married Jane and moved to Bertie County, North Carolina, is believed to have been his son. Moore left a will naming a son Isaac who married Ruth and died after 1790. Isaac and Ruth were the parents of Kindred and James, among others. Kindred and James both came to Georgia. Kindred Carter settled in Richmond County, on the frontier of the new state, along Little Germany creek. This land is now part of McDuffie County, approximately 35 miles west of Augusta, Georgia. At his death in 1800, his estate listed four heirs: James, b. 1773 in North Carolina Henry Jesse Martha Virginia Crilley
