I am also interested in them and the others who came from there (N.C.) Betty
This doesn't address your question directly, but.... one thing I have done with old pictures is to take a picture of them with my digital camera. It does not need a flash, and so it can make quality reproductions of them without damaging them, and these reproductions will last forever... Dear Mr. Riley and Bertie-l subscribers, This solves a mystery that several of us Dunlow researchers have been puzzled by for a long time. Henry was in Bertie in 1787, living with a woman perhaps his wife. By the 1790 census he was single in Halifax County. Then he disappears off our radar screens. This explains why. His only heir as of 1803 was Sarah Hosea in Perquimans County. This presumably is the Sarah Dundelow who married Solomon Sparkman in Bertie in 1797. We don't know whether Hugh, who died in military service in 1783, was Henry's brother or son, but he was the father of John through whom all the later Bertie County Dunlows are descended. Henry was administrator of Hugh's estate, but within a few years Henry faced financial ruin and Hugh's son John was apprenticed-- as was Charney, whose parentage remains unknown. Then, in the late 1780s, Henry went to Halifax County. There are four descendants of Hugh who have been collecting family history information for some time, much of it involving Henry. What sort of information would be useful to you at this time? Sincerely, Paul Johnson PS-- There are at least a dozen spellings we have documented for the same family. Dunlo, Dunelo, Dundelow, Dundalow, Dunalo, Dunlow, Dondalout, Donally, Dundellow, Dunderlow, Dundalo, Dundlo. Often three spellings on one document referring to the same person! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? A year of so ago there was a research working on the Belch line that came from Bertie Co into western Tennessee in Haywood Co. If he is still a subscriber and see this, it's concern the family of William Joseph Belch who married Sarah Frances Adeline Robbins. Believe they married in Gibson Co. Tn, later going to Texas. We're having trouble working on the Robbins and thought perhaps a Belch researcher could help. Have some information on the Belch family. Reese J. Moses-S. Virginia there was a Henry and Hugh Dundalo here in Bertie County, I have long suspected that he ties into my Charney C. Dundalow family. The name had various spellings; Dunnelo, Dunnels, Dondelow, Dundelow to name a few. I'm sure this is the present day spelling Dunlow. This Henry Dundalo seemed to vanish before or ca. 1790. The Charney Cale that I connect to used the name Charney C. Dundalow for years. He was born ca. 1779 and died in 1860. He married Elizabeth Harmon in 1804 as Charney Cale, though he was a Dunnelo-Dundalo before. He joined the army ca. 1807 as Charney C. Dundalow, he fought in the war of 1812 as Charney C. Dundalow. In 1818 and 1819 he purchased land here in Bertie as Charney Dundalow. All of his future land transactions were as Charney Cale. On February 11, 1857, P.H. Winston stated in letter concerning status of Charney of Charney Cale's land-bounty application to Federal Bureau of Pensions that Charney Cale was Charney C. Dundelow. "The Dundelow has not been used for years," also stated that "Charney served faithfully" five years in the army and the War of 1812. Charney Cale was in the regular army for five years before the War of 1812. He enlisted as Charney C. Dundelow. Charney's father was said to have been full blooded Indian, or better known as Chief Cucklemaker. I have never been able to tie this Henry Dunnelo in but I'm sure he connects somewhere! The following are research conducted on this family. I don't understand this Legion Ville is the cantonment of Major General Anthony Wayne from 9 November 1792- 30 April 1793, what was this?
