    3. From Eric Conard for the benefit of all who might need railroad records of those who were pensioned under the RRA instead of SSA. I might mention that some years ago I found the Erie RR records quite accessible. Subject: Re: Railroad records I received quite a blow when I stopped by the Santa Fe (AT&SF) home office in Topeka some years back. They were located near the Kansas State Historical Society at 10th and Jackson, across the street from the capitol. The KSHS has since moved to a new site. I inquired about personnel records and was brusquely told they had no interest in history, that such stuff was routinely destroyed. Nothing there. Shortly thereafter they moved to Texas after nearly a century in Topeka. There are some folks at the Kansas State Historical Society right off 1-70 near the governor's mansion who have tried to re-construct railroad records. They are somewhat chagrined at the negative stance held by Santa Fe, and have a user-friendly attitude about helping. Thought this might save a trip, and the Kansas State Historical Society is the only source for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe archives. The Society does have a near-complete newspaper collection, second to none in the US, filmed, and will circulate through approved institutions. Paul, please distribute this as you see fit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. The 1772 will of John Davison also mentioned Edward, William, another John and Amos. The 1779 will of John Davidson mentioned Sarah, Elizabeth and Smithwick. Were either of these two men related to the John Davidson who was apparently born in Bertie in the late 1600s, or were all of his family members "long gone" from the area by the 1770s? Some seem to believe that the descendants of the "earliest" John Davidson of Bertie were up in the Pittsylvania Co., VA area around the 1760s-1790s. An Abraham, Joseph and John Davidson were in that part of VA then, and it looks like two of them married Chilton/Shelton women there (and a man named Samuel Harris Davidson was born in that part of VA in 1795). Thanks!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/2UB.2ACI/2228 Message Board Post: Like looking for a needle in a Hay Stack, cuz there were so many Williams' who were migrated and were born in NC...here's my story: Henry Williams Born: Approx: 1835 in North Carolina Parents were born in North Carolina Henry served with Co I 7th Cav in the Civil War in Iowa. His military record states that he was born in North Carolina in 1835. He was about 5'8" tall weighed about 130lbs, tanned skin, black hair, blue eyes. Later Census records Henry states that his parents were born in North Carolina. I an figuring that Henry's parents were probably born about 1810-1815 in North Carolina, I base this assumption on that they were at least 20 years old when Henry was born. Henry was in Iowa in 1860, married Sarah Winterringer in 1863 in Smithland, Iowa. Later moved to St Helena, Nebraska where he died in 1891 from a fall. I know its not much to go on, but hopefully someone will have something or a match somewhere. Family rumor says that Henry's middle name may have been "barnes", but I have yet to find any evidence of this. 3. Does anyone whether any Edward Collins or his brother Thomas had sons, and what happened to those men? Also, I'm interested in learning more about the physician George Collins in Colonial Bertie County, the George Collins referenced in the 1749 May Court minutes, as well as the George Collins who witnessed the 1753 deed referenced below: Bertie Deed Book H, Page 50. Joseph Wimberly, merchant, to Archibald White and James Scott of Norfolk. June 21, 1753. 50 Pounds for Land now in their possession by above lease.by a Bargain of Sale.for one whole year. Land granted to Edward Moore and conveyed to Charles Hardy and thence to Joseph Wimberly. I suspect they may be relatd but have nor found proof. I have never seen any references to George Collins. I would be very interested to know how he might fit into the Collins picture. When did the North Carolina border move north, taking of some of land that had formerly been in Virginia? Was land in the vicinity of Eure (Cypruss Swamp) now in Gates County formerly in Virginia before the border change? Was land down near Woodville (Flag Run, Runeroy Meadows, Cashie, etc.) now in SW Bertie County formerly in Virginia before the border change? I think the answer here is no, while the land in the vicinity Eure may have formerly been in Virginia. Thanks so much. 1. Lookup -- Edward Harell will 1754/6, Location Uneroy/Runaroy Marsh?
    2. Hello Everyone, I am getting back into my Harrell, Marsh, Landing, Hargrove (Sparkman) research in the Bertie/Gates/Hertford Co. area. I have a couple of quick questions, and am hoping someone might be able to help. First, I am wondering if someone has a Bertie Co.will absract for Edward Harrell they could please share with me. He apparently wrote his will in 1754 and it was probated in 1756 (my interpretation of dates in a document without details). Second, there are some researchers who feel he married a Margaret Brumwell in Middlesex County in 1707. At Sally's wonderful website she has the following note for estate administration: "Margett Harrell - Inv. 8 Aug 1738 by R Williams" _http://www.sallysfamilyplace.com/Neighbors/Harrell2.htm_ (http://www.sallysfamilyplace.com/Neighbors/Harrell2.htm) I am curious if there is any more information in the court records about this estate? Orphan records perhaps. Third, I would like to confirm that the location of Uneroy/Runeroy Marsh near it seems Flag Run in several deeds in the 1700s involving Easons, Harrells, Marshes, Parkers, Smiths, is located in the Southwestern portion of Bertie, near the Halifax County line/Roanoke River, just a bit west of Woodville/Lewiston (see example below). Is anyone familiar with this area? I found that Virginia had a query several years ago, but there was no answer in the archives. "C177 William Eason to Edward Harrell of Nansemond Co, VA Dec 20 1729 25 pds for 350 ac on SES Unerry? Swamp adj Owen Daniels, James Smith, William Eason, ---- Parker, Part of Patent granted William Eason 4 Aug 1723 and of another patent granted Eason 1 May 1721 and part of a deed of sale of James Parker dated 12 July 1722. Wit: John Harrell, John Harrell, Grace Harrell Feb Ct 1729. Thomas Crew DCC" URL, is same as above. Thanks so much in advance, Janet (Baugh) Hunter
