My Moses would date back to late 1700-early 1800's in Bertie Co., NC. His wife was supposedly Jemina Standley. He had a son also named Moses and a son William (my line). I have found a number of Moses Spiveys in the census but so far have not gotten documentation on my line. I have been in contact with Darlene.

ANNETTA THOMAS IN THE LATE 1880S.
Hello all, I have made great progress in finding info. on the above named RAWLS men and their families, but, I need more info. as the records I have received over the last year cleared up many mysteries yet uncovered a few new ones. first: JEREMIAH RAWLS died between 1822-1827 per a few court records that survived in HERTFORD county, NC. For a long time it was thought he was the SAME JEREMIAH RAWLS of NANSEMOND CO., VIRGINIA. It was also thought the JEREMIAH of HERTFORD was married with married daughters. This was wrong on both counts! first I found court records for MORIAH RAWLS dated 1825 dividing up his land, one heir was a son JEREMIAH RAWLS, bingo, JEREMIAH of HERTFORD was MORIAH's son, WRONG, MORIAH's son JEREMIAH was selling land after the other JEREMIAH died, and in fact is the JEREMIAH RAWLS who with several sisters went to EARLY County, GEORGIA and died there. Well back to JEREMIAH that died about 1827. a court case sent to me by a researcher I have hired revealed from a 1818+ court case in HERTFORD County, that the JEREMIAH RAWLS that died in 1827 along with his two sisters MARY & CATHERINE RAWLS were the INFANTS and ORPHANS of DAVID RAWLS. Altho the JEREMIAH RAWLS of NANSEMOND Co., Virginia was the son of DAVID & ELIZABETH RAWLS he could not be the one from NANSEMOND as his father, DAVID RAWLS died before 1782. I knew they had to be of MORIAH RAWLS family, yet NOT his children. Today I received yet another court case, this one from BERTIE County, NORTH CAROLINA. It was tha actual land division of MORIAH RAWLS which listed his eight children, yet NOT DAVID in the papers. BUT, It did list DAVID RAWLS in them. BINGO, DAVID RAWLS is indeed from MORIAH RAWLS's family. now my problem! first: MORIAH RAWLS purchased a marriage license in 1788 in BERTIE County. If DAVID RAWLS was from this marriage of MORIAH's he would only be 28 or so when he died, old enough for the three minor children, but not for the married RAWLS women listed in JEREMIAH's estate records from 1827, yet no doubt DAVID's married daughters. SO, Either DAVID was an older son of MORIAH's from a preveous marriage or was a BROTHER to MORIAH. MORIAH RAWLS was no doubt a son of ABSALOM and ANN RAWLS as was WILLIAM, SILAS and an older NOAH RAWLS. The three sons listed in the land division for MORIAH RAWLS were JEREMIAH, NOAH and WILLIAM RAWLS, Yet he had FOUR males in his household in 1810 Census. any help is truly appreciated. I was looking back through some notes taken from Bertie list about Smithwick family. This was posted in 2000 and 2001. I would assume the archives have been checked. The information went back to the 1600s on a Henry Smithwick. I don't know if any of that will help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Virginia Crilley" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 16, 2006 7:52 PM Subject: [NCBERTIE] Fwd: need info on smithwick and pearce family at white oak methodist church, merry hill, n. c. > Can anyone on our Bertie List help out this researcher? > >>Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2006 14:46:19 -0700 >>From: "e.bunch" <[email protected]> >>Subject: need info on smithwick and pearce family at white oak methodist >> church, merry hill, n. c. >> >> >> > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
No. This Frederick Holland was an only child. Frederick was born before 1775 in Bertie Co.,N.C. His parents were Henry Holland and Mary Harrell. Henry Holland died 1758. Mary Harrell Holland married Edwrd Toole Sept 26 ,1764 Mary Harrell was the daughter of Abraham Harrell and Mary Guin. The transcript of Abrahan Harrell's will leaves out his daughter Mary. but if you read the will itself "I give to my daughter Mary one bay mare with a white star on it's forehead-------." Mary Harrell 's sister Grace Harrell married Theophilus Holland. They had 2 sons, Henry Holland and Theophilus Holland. There is proof that William Holland was Theophilus Holland's father. Deed "Colonial Bertie Co..N.C. Deed Books, A-H 1720-1757" p 232 H 82 William Holland to Theophilus Holland Nov 12,1753 Deed of gift 125 "to my well belovd son, Theophilus Holland,----to him and his heirs------" land on the Casy Swamp. Also deed to Snell Holland from William Holland p 233 H 87 deed of gift. But no proof that William Holland was Henry Holland's father. "Ann" and "Nancy" or "Nannie" were often used interchangeably, but I believe "Nancy" was the nickname in earlier times. Our ancestors were playing the "Name Game" long before it was a popular song. Hi Mary Ellen, My Hollands are Frederick Holland and Grace Cole. In Frederick's will ( Feb. term 1819) he lists his children--one being Ann Wimberly. I have not been able to find out which Wimberly was her husband. George Wimberly married Nancy Holland- Nov 25 ,1817---have not been able to place her. I am wondering if maybe Nancy is Ann as Ann is a nickname for Nancy. Would you have any information on this Wimberly family?
