    1. [NCBERTIE] Gardner questions
    2. Two questions: 1) I have Samuel Gardner (1749-1815) m. Elizabeth Griffin. I have him as from Bertie Co, but living in Martin Co by the 1779 tax list. I have not been able to find parents for Samuel, except to speculate about John Gardner of Bertie (1720-1790), as there's a Samuel who receives land from John's estate. It says Samuel receives land adjacent Thomas Veal. There are not any Samuel's in the Bertie 1790, 1800, or 1810 census. Does anyone know of any connections between Samuel b.1749 and Thomas, indicating they could be the same Samuel? 2) I have seen on Rootsweb that John's parents are Martin Gardner m. Ann (Bryan?). Does anyone know more about them, and who their parents were? Some say Ann was daughter of Needham Bryan & Anne Rombeau, but the dates don't quite fit. Many thanks. ---------------- Ray Gurganus [email protected] www.gurganus.org

    3. As a word of caution only; be aware that the name Garner and Gardner were used interchangeably in nearby Edgecombe county during the period 1760-1780. I know the truth of this through my own Drake lines; Ann, a daughter of Lazarus Drake, married a Garner then and there, yet soon thereafter he was being called Gardner. 2. Bill & Dee Miller
    3. Hi Elizabeth, Good to hear that your out there. Hope that you had a BLESSED CHRISTMAS and please have a Healthy Year to come. This is Dee Miller cousin to Billy Pettitt. I went by your way this summer. After mother passed away in October of 2004 we promised our selves a long vacation with all of our families. My husband Bill & I had a 4 month vacation. Visiting all the families from Alabama, GA, SC, NC, VA, PA, MI. to Canada where mothers family came from. Found my grandfather's cemetery. The church my uncle was baptized in. They also had the original baptismal. What a joy to be able to touch it & know that my grandparents had been there. I was overwhelm with feelings. I do hope that they know that I was there. I had the same feelings when Bill & I were in the Capehart Church in Bertie, a few years ago. Well 7,000 miles and worth every bit of it. We came home POOoped............... We did stop and spend a grand time with Billy Pettitt & his sister Jackie Pettitt/Potter. We have always stayed with Bill but last time we were there Jackie asked us to stay with here. So we did. I took pictures of her pictures. There mother was so beautiful. Bill came over to Jackie's and we visited the cemetery's and exchanged so many family memories. He gave to me pictures of John Major Pettit b. 1834, William Hislop Pettitt b. 1836 & Edward Kerr Pettitt b. 1844 They were Bill's G. Uncle's. All were in their uniforms. What a precious gift for Bill to share with me. Bill is doing well and he is in Florida this week on vacation. Wish that he had made plans to come by to visit us but we are not on a direct flight pattern. I have been reading the latest messages for the Morris Johnson Cemetery and decided to see if my files were up to date. Well I see that there are a few names that I can not place. I have enclosed the list and the one in red are the ones that I have records for. Do you know what families the rest of these people belong to? Can you tell me who the parents are to my missing people? They must all be connected but I do not see where they belong. Good to see you out and about. If it's not to much trouble can you fill in my missing parents? Love Dee Miller Alabama ----- Original Message ----- Morris Johnson Family Cemetery 2007 This cemetery is located in Windsor. 3. That is an excellent idea, Ken. I downloaded and played with the program yesterday and I LOVE IT!! I would encourage everybody to get this free download. There is, however, a caveat. This program is graphics intensive and likes a quick processor, lots of memory and 32 bit color resolution. Otherwise it can be painfully slow but it does work. Try it, you'll like it <g>. Now if Ken's assumption re. the three trees is correct, would someone please add the following coordinates to the Morris-Johnson Family Cemetery listing please?: 36° 00.4967' N 76° 58.1883' W If I can get local volunteers (who know the territory better than I do) to do with the other cemeteries in Bertie County what Ken and I did with the Morris-Johnson Family Cemetery, I will put up a web site like I did for Harris County, TX <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~prsmith/alpha_cem_a-f .htm>.
