Author: puzlelady Surnames: Early,Barmer, Copeland Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.bertie/1824.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Rob, are you still researching the Copelands? I recently found where Wiley Barmer married Quilla Copeland at the home of Eliza Copeland on Oct. 6, 1881. It gave his age as 25 and hers as 18, I think he fudged on his age, he was about 30. His first wife was Judy Jones. In 1900 he was listed as a widower and in 1910 he had a wife named Pattie. They had been married 11 yrs. John Jarvis Barmer was born in April, 1882 and was mentioned in Eliza's will as her grandson, in 1900 he is listed in the census as the son of Wiley Barmer. The Barmers and Copelands were listed next door to each other in 1880 census. Eliza's other daughter, Sallie An, was living with her as was a man named William Early. I am trying to find proof that Bealie Barmer(dau of Wiley) married the son of Sallie An and William Early, his name was listed as John on his son's death certificte. Bealie had a brother named Jarvis who is buried in the Rawls cemetery between Aulander and Roxobel. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. You might try Cass County, IL. There was a large group from Bertie that went there around 1835. They then scattered - some stayed (mostly in the Beardstown area), some went across the river into MO, and some went to Texas (as late as 1849). I know that some of that group ended up in Corsicana, TX, as well as Dallas County. Some of the Cass County cemeteries are on line. I know that Beardstown is, or was. I am the great great granddaughter of Hatton Redditt Fleetwood, and I am trying to locate his burial place. Last month I visited and took pics of Fleetwood burial places in College Mound Cem. (Sarah Jane Henry Fleetwood, Hetty B. Fleetwood Brown, Elodie Amelia Fleetwood)in Kaufman Cty, TX, Rice Cem. (Isabella Kemper (Hudson)Fleetwood; Emma Lucille Fleetwood);and Corsicana, TX (Hatton Kemper F., wife Izetta Emma Long (Mc Corkle), their dau. Maud Fleetwood Thompson). I would also like to know where Julia Elizabeth Fleetwood Johnson is buried, and her siblings from HR's Illinois union as they came to TX with their father. Hatton Redditt's poss 1st wife was Henrietta ?. I made a phone call at College Mound Cem. and was told that they had 3 Fleetwood unmarked, undated graves there. Also, Terrell has one unmarked, undated Fleetwood grave there. My brother made an extensive physical walking search for H.R.'s grave in the 60's to no avail all over Kaufman Cty. Both my mother and! brother worked on our gen for 40 years. They are both deceased and now I am trying to carry on- which is so diff with the internet! Any info you could share would be so appreciated! Thanks, Mary Lou Fleetwood Kirves HR was the son of Hardy Fleetwood and Sarah Redditt Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I received an email from you and I replied. Well to begin, my mother was born Linda Fay Smallwood in Bertie NC in 1953. Her parents were Emma and Charles Smallwood. She was given up for adoption to a family living in Norfolk, Va. We recently went down to the Bertie County Courthouse when we found out that were mother was born Emma Ward in 1934. On her marriage certificate it listed her parents as being Essie Cherry and James E Ward. On Essie's and James' marriage license his parents were (Hardy Ward and Emma Lee) Essie's parents were (William Cherry and Nonie Cherry). I discovered George and Rebecca through census records as being Essie's grandparents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
