Let this be a good lesson to all. I just got the biggest shock when I real Neil Baker's obit on the list. I emailed him a month or more ago and then wondered why I had not heard back from him. I pulled his phone no. and put it by my phone with all intentions of calling him and, you know, with family ( alrge one) and work I just never got to it. This evening my husband asked if I had called him and I replied that i WAS GOING TO DO THAT TOMORROW WITHOUT FAIL. And i then went on the computer checking my email and ther it was abt his death in March! Neil and I connected thru the list sight a few yrs ago and found we were kin-had the same ggggranparents and I visited him a couple times and he took me to the old family farm and we put up headstones on our gggranparents graves. He was store house of family knowledge and helped me so much in garmering info abt my Bertie ancestors. I am so sorry he's gone and I send up my prayers for his family. Yvonne Parks Elizabeth City

I was shocked to hear about Neil's death, and also that of Jim Hollomon. Both have contributed so much over the years and I will miss them. Mr. Hollomon, a native of Hertford County, was the son of the late Hunter Hollomon and Mabel Wynns Hollomon and the husband of Dorothy Bland Hollomon of the residence. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty-six years in Security Services, a NCOA Lifetime Member, and a member of the Salvation Army. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven Wayne Hollomon of Elizabeth City, NC and Brian Keith Hollomon of Goldsboro, NC; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Salvation Army, 906 Fourth Street, Elizabeth City, NC with Captain James McGee officiating on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Stoney Creek Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC. Ray Neil Baker, Sr. (April 4, 1949 - March 18, 2009) Ray Neil Baker, Sr., 59, of 320 Bakertown Road, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Pitt Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bertie County on April 4, 1949 to the late Enoch Ledrew and Sybil Hoggard Baker. He was also predeceased by a son, Brian Ledrew Baker, and his brother, Gary Baker. Neil was a member of Capeharts Baptist Church and retired from RJ Reynolds as a LAD Manager. He enjoyed genealogy and was very knowledgeable in it. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March, 20, 2009 at Capeharts Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jake Dunlow and Rev. David Baker officiating. He is survived by his wife, Francis Spruill Baker of Windsor; one daughter, Shannon Baker of Greenville; one son Neil Baker, Jr., of Windsor; one sister, Carol B. Penn of Williamston; and three grandchildren, Tyler Neil Baker, Lauren Faith-Rae Baker and Caleb Lee. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the home.
