My husband is also a descendant of David William Carpenter and Mira Gragg through their son, Ervin. He is the one that is such an enigma. Cannot find out who he married but I know he had a daughter named Betty Jane Carpenter and a son named Todd. Sophia was born 1810 in Burke (now Avery) Cty and died 1889 in McDowell Cty, NC. She married in 1830 in Yancey Cty to Gabriel English b 1809 in Burke and died 1890 in McDowell. If anyone has information and dates for David and for, especially, Ervin, I would appreciate it. I know David and the family went to Cherokee Cty, NC.
