Let's see: I have David died in 1889 in Graham Cty, NC. I would LOVE a copy of the photo of Mira Gragg Carpenter but I have no fax machine :o( I also found them on those censuses but mostly through indexes so I haven't complete information except for 1850 and 1860. The first children were from a first wife that no one knows the name of (poor thing!). She married David about 1830 and had William Nov 8, 1830; Thomas D. 1839 d 1862 in Grahamville SC in the Civil War; Wilson 1835; Levi 1837. I did not know about the girls. He married Mira in about 1840 in Yancey Cty and their first child was James Pinkney in 1841 followed as you say by Sarah 1843, Ervin 1843-44 (Family says it was Ervin not Erwin and 1850 census has Ervin); Jonathan, Mary Jane, Dollie Marie, (I didn't have Donna except in notes and did not know where she fit in), Rachel Matilda March 6, 1853; Samuel Oct. 1, 1855; David April 1858, Frances Caroline June 4, 1860. All were born in Yancey Cty. Martha was born June 10, 1864 in Cherokee Cty. There was an Erwin Carpenter also born in Yancey Cty in about 1845. He was the son of Samuel (brother of David William) and Frances Vaughn. Caused me no end of grief to figure that out.
