Mary L Payne census of 1880 Wilkes Co, NC Job's Cabin Township Payne Mary L 37 born abt 1843 Calvin 12 born 1867 Rebecca A 10 born 1869 Francis M 8 born abt 1872 Magdaline looks like a 5 but could be 3 born abt 1877 If this census is correct, Mary L Payne would have been born abt 1843, NC. Nothing else is known about Mary except she used the name "Eliza." According to the marriage information of Calvin and Rebecca in Caldwell Co. Her oldest son Calvin was Thomas Calvin Payne born 1867, NC. Married Sarah Caroline Mays on March 21 1891, Caldwell Co, NC. Calvin died Oct 31 1925, Gaston Co, NC. Rebecca A- Annie/Anna Rebecca Payne born May 27 1869, NC. Married Columbus Franklin Mays March 21 1891, Caldwell Co. Married same day as her brother Calvin. Columbus was the brother of Sarah Caroline Mays. Annie Rebecca/Anna Rebecca died Feb 12 1936. Francis M Payne - born 1872, NC Magdaline Payne born 1877, NC. There is a Bastardy Bond listed in Burke Co for: Elizabeth Payne 24 May 1869 Bondsman Sidney Tate & J.W. Walker This could be for the second child of Mary L "Eliza" Payne. There is another Bastardy Bond listed in Alexander Co for: Lydia Payne Mar 1877 Lydia Payne Mary Annrnes Daniel Fox and J.P. White This could be for Mary's 4th child. Was Mary L Payne really Mary Lydia Elizabeth Payne? Calvin and Caroline Payne lived in Caldwell Co and later moved to Gaston Co, NC. Rebecca A and Columbus Mays lived in Caldwell Co and died/buried there. In 1860 Wilkes Co we have listed: #670/670 Pain, W.W., male 52, b. NC Pain, Rebecca, 37, b. NC Pain, William, 20, b. NC Pain, Mary, 18, b. NC Pain, Harris, 16, b. NC Pain, Martha, 13, b. NC Pain, Anna, 8, b. NC Pain, Leander, 7, b. NC Pain Hambleton, 1, b. NC I believe this is the Mary Payne I am looking for. I already know the Rebecca that is listed could not be Mary's mother. W. W. Pain/Payne born abt 1808 married twice to two Rebecca's. Rebecca Tugman was wife #1( January 23, 1833) and Rebecca Laws was wife # 2 (listed on this census) Mary L Payne named her second child and first daughter, Rebecca. Was Mary L Payne the daughter of W. W. Pain/Payne and Rebecca Tugman? Anyone out there have information on this family? Thanks, Lesa
