NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Avery/398 Surname: Isaacs, Robbins ------------------------- I do have a source for the first name of Richard Isaacs, I's spouse. A desc. of Richard's first son Elijah b June 07, 1785 in Randolph Co., N C found information in the Carroll County Museum. It was a family history written by: Andrew J. Isaacs, Oct. 18, 1909. He is the Grandson of Elijah. It says; Elijah Isaacs son of Richard and Elenor Isaacs was born in Randolph Co., NC, June 07, 1785. It also lists the spouse and children of Elijah and first daughter was named Elenor, obviously after Elijah's mother. This gives us at least two or more sources confirming that Elijah is the son of our Richard Isaacs b c1765. The other sources are the land documents of Ashe County, NC where Elijah lived until he moved to Carroll Co., IN about 1829. He was also on the 1810 Ashe Co., NC Census. His spouse according to the family history was Sarah "Sally" Massagee d/o Lemuel Massagee. Their marriage date was March 13, 1806. Children were: 1. Elenor Isaacs the first born to Elijah and Sally Isaacs was born June 27, 1807. 2. Nancy Isaacs b Oct. 27, 1808 3. Dorcas Isaacs b September 5, 1810 4. Rebecca Isaacs b May 29, 1812 5. Absalem Isaacs b April 1, 1814 6. Huldah Isaacs b March 16, 1816 7. Massy Isaacs b Nov. 18, 1818 Andrew also gives information for the spouse of Massey as Nathan Farmer and their children. Elijah and Sally Isaacs are buried in the Burrows Cem. in Liberty Twp. Carroll Co., IN. Now,as for the information from A History of Watauga County, NC by John Preston Arthur stating that Richard married a Miss Robbins of Randolph Co., NC. I suspect that this is true but have not been able to find the correct Robbins family. There is the line of Isaac Robbins and Ann Bryant d/o the Col. John Bryant who was killed by Col. Fanning in Randolph Co. in 1782. Richard was stated as living in the household of Col. Bryant when he was killed. Too, this Robbins family has an Emsley Robbins b 1802 (I believe from memory.) My GG-Grandfather was named Emsley Isaacs, Sr., and I have tried to trace the origin of this given name. I have found none previous to his in the Isaacs family, however, it is a common given name among many Randolph County residents around that time period. Robbins being one of these families. It would be great if we could confirm that Elenor is a Robbins. I might mention too that the name Nellie is a common nickname for Elenor and is found in our Isaacs line of Watauga and Avery Counties.
