NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Avery/456 Surname: Taylor ------------------------- Donna, I am sure your date for James is more accurate than anything I have. I have no concrete info for Hugh and only suspect (family lore) info for James. What I find strange is Hugh born 1796 and James not until 1827. They must be the oldest and youngest (or close to it) of a lot of children. In Avery County Heritage, Vol I, p. 196, Cozie says: The father of Hugh Taylor and James Taylor must have come from Boston. He received a land grant for services in the Revolutionary War. His original grant was in what is now South Carolina. In the family history of the Taylors, his given name is not listed. However, he is described as a commissioned officer of the Revolution who was given a tract of land in Carolina for his distinguised service and is credited with owning a large estate and many slaves. One of his sons moved to Indiana. That's not conclusive, of course, it's just what she remembered at the time she was writing the bit for the Heritage book.
